Samsung Wallet coming to Malaysia end-January, allowing users to add boarding passes and digital keys

Samsung has announced that its Samsung Wallet is coming to Malaysian users by the end of the month. This will allow users to store passes, passwords and digital keys to their Galaxy phone, in addition to the credit, debit, gift and membership cards already supported as part of Samsung Pay.

The Samsung Wallet incorporates the functionality of Samsung Pass, essentially a password manager and autofill system built into the phone. This also means you’ll be able to add a digital home or car key, the latter most notably supported by BMW. Vehicles equipped with the BMW Digital Key option can soon be unlocked through a user’s Galaxy S21 or newer thanks to UWB technology.

Additionally, the Samsung Wallet will also be able to accept airline boarding passes as well as health and vaccine passes. It can even store digital assets such as cryptocurrencies. However, Samsung has stated that the availability of each feature will vary by country, so not all of the functions may make it here.

Malaysia joins seven other countries getting Samsung Wallet this month, including Australia, Brazil, Canada, Hong Kong, India, Singapore and Taiwan—just in time for the reveal of the Galaxy S23. The service was launched in July, initially in China, France, Germany, Italy, Korea, Spain, the UK and the US.

Samsung has been quick on the draw this time, debuting Samsung Wallet in Malaysia just months after its global release. The company launched Samsung Pay here back in February 2017, two years after being made available in other markets.
