Xiaomi Watch S2, Buds 4, Sound Pro and Router 10000: IoT range gets upgraded for 2023

Aside from the Xiaomi 13, 13 Pro and Mini PC, Xiaomi has also revealed several other products that form part of its wide-ranging IoT portfolio. They include the Xiaomi Watch S2, Xiaomi Buds 4, Xiaomi Sound Pro and Xiaomi Router 10000, each offering several upgrades over the company’s existing offerings.

Xiaomi Watch S2

Let’s start with the Xiaomi Watch S2, the replacement for last year’s S1. Aside from the regular 46mm smartwatch, there’s now a smaller 42mm model for those with svelte wrists. Pricing is as follows:

  • Xiaomi Watch S2 42mm – RMB999 (about RM632)
  • Xiaomi Watch S2 46mm – RMB1,099 (about RM696)

The biggest new feature is body composition measurement via a bioelectric impedance sensor, letting you track eight metrics such as body fat percentage, muscle weight, basal metabolic rate, protein content and even bone salt content. There’s also a new safety tracking feature that allows users to quickly send their location and SOS messages in the event of an emergency.

As before, the S2 can measure heart rate and blood oxygen saturation and monitor sleep and stress levels; it also offers cycle tracking and over 100 workout modes. Battery life remains the same at 12 days despite a larger 500mAh battery than before, or four days with the always-on display switched on. For the 42mm model’s smaller 305mAh battery, those figures are seven and three days respectively. The display, by the way, is a round AMOLED panel that measures either 1.32 or 1.43 inches.

Xiaomi Buds 4

The Xiaomi Buds 4 (not to be confused with the Redmi Buds 4), on the other hand, are wireless earbuds that sit below the Xiaomi Buds 4 Pro, losing the former’s in-ear design. This downgrade does come with a reasonable drop in price to RMB699 (about RM442), versus RMB999 for the Pro version.

Highlights include dual graphene magnetic drivers, dynamic adaptive EQ compensation for more stable and consistent sound, triple-mic active noise cancellation with adaptive transparency and on-device spatial audio that removes the need for a smartphone for calculations. The buds also support the LHDC 5.0 codec, qualifying it for Hi-Res Wireless Audio certification. Xiaomi claims a battery life of six hours, or 30 hours if you include the sleek carrying case inspired by a space capsule.

Xiaomi Sound Pro

Xiaomi has also introduced its top-of-the-range smart speaker, the Sound Pro, priced at RMB999 (about RM632) It delivers 360-degree sound through a combination of three 1.5-inch 5W speakers, a four-inch 40W woofer and three passive radiators. The device also features Harman AudioEFX professional tuning, which enables it to automatically switch between “Strong Bass”, “Balanced” and “Clean” output modes by analyzing the music being played using the XiaoAi Speaker app.

The Sound Pro also incorporates Bluetooth 5.1 and AirPlay 2 connectivity, a 3.5mm auxiliary jack and an intercom-style feature. The latter allows users to communicate to others in the home through other devices such as smart speakers, smartphones and TVs. Users can also “handoff” their music from their phone to the speaker using NFC. The transparent upper portion incorporates RGB lights that can react according to the songs being played.

Xiaomi Router 10000

Last but not least is the Xiaomi Router 10000, its stratospheric numbering indicating its status amongst the company’s WiFi router offerings. Priced at RMB1,799 (about RM1,138), this flagship tri-band router is claimed to offer 20% faster network speeds with wired and wireless data transfers at up to 10 gigabits per second.

This performance comes courtesy of a Qualcomm quad-core networking processor with Arm Cortex-A73 CPUs, along with a 12-channel signal amplifier. The Router 10000 also comes with 2GB of internal storage, two 10Gbps network ports, a USB 3.0 port and a “sophisticated” heat dissipation system.

This allows users to set up ultra-high-speed wired and wireless connections, with network-attached storage (NAS) and support for more than 1,000 devices connected to the same network. The Router 10000 also enables fast WiFi pairing through NFC.
