Samsung Australia accidentally leaks Galaxy Z Flip 5, Z Fold 5 reveal date: 27 July

With the folding phone segment now well and truly hotting up, all eyes are on Samsung for its riposte, and it appears to have showed its hand a little early. The company’s Australian newsroom confirmed that the new Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Z Fold 5 will be revealed at the next Unpacked event—which will be held in its home city of Seoul for the first time, as per previous reports—on July 27. That’s a month and a half from now.

The already-deleted press release was picked up by SamMobile, which reported that the event will take place at the COEX Convention and Exhibition Centre in Samseong-dong, Gangnam. According to the publication, Samsung wants to change tack when it comes to launch events, holding them in “popular cultural cities around the world” that closely match the theme of each event.

Samsung’s new foldables are tipped to follow the trend of competitors like Oppo, Huawei, Honor and even Google in adopting a teardrop-style hinge, which should not only let the phones fold flat (no gap in between) but also result in a shallower crease. The smaller Z Flip 5 will also reportedly feature a far larger 3.4-inch cover display, which will take up almost the entire front face of the phone, much like the recently-introduced Motorola Razr+.

Expect both phones to feature upgraded cameras, larger batteries (which would resolve our biggest qualm with the Z Flip 4) and the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip—the latter almost certainly being the custom version with a higher clock speed, shared with the S23. The new Z series devices are also tipped to get some form of dust resistance, giving them an IP58 rating. Aside from the foldables, Samsung is also expected to reveal the Galaxy Watch 6 and the Galaxy Tab S9 at the event.
