Which part of Genting’s ‘Virtual Queue’ system is actually powered by AI? | Ask Us Anything #23

Welcome back to another episode of Ask Us Anything, where we gather your questions from the internet and answer them.

In today’s episode, we will find out if there is a cheap wireless broadband plan with unlimited speed and quota, does a gaming laptop under RM1500 exist, and which part of Genting’s ‘Virtual Queue’ system for the SkyWorlds theme park is powered by AI?

Which part of Genting’s ‘Virtual Queue’ system for the SkyWorlds theme park is powered by AI?

Genting partnered with Alibaba Cloud to develop the region’s first AI-powered ‘Virtual Queue’ system for the Genting SkyWorlds theme park. By using the Genting Skyworlds app, you can link your ticket to the app and virtually queue up for rides by pre-booking your time slot on the rides you want to experience.

The AI part of this system is used to calculate the waiting times based on data collected from VQ reservations, cameras and sensors that monitor the number of people in queues. You can then view and experience other rides with shorter queues while you wait for your booked time slot.

When your time slot is up next, the app will buzz you with a notification. Now, you still have to queue for these rides, but your waiting time can be reduced to as little as 10 minutes.

Genting hopes this system will help spread the crowd equally across the SkyWorlds theme park. They will also use the data collected by the AI to figure out things like which ride is most popular, average visitors on any given day, and crowd movement.

You can try out the virtual queue system for yourself by searching for Genting Skyworlds on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.

A cheap wireless broadband plan with unlimited speed and quota?

Now, there is currently no ISP in Malaysia that offers a wireless broadband plan with both unlimited speed and quota. Therefore, here are examples of the cheapest plan with unlimited speed and the cheapest plan with unlimited quota.

U mobile offer a wireless broadband plan starting from RM48 per month for 20GB of quota with unlimited speed. Meanwhile, Yes offers 70GB of data for RM68 a month, again with unlimited speed. So you get 250% more data for an extra 41% fee compared to U Mobile.

It’s important to note that unlimited speed here means that you can access the maximum speed available on the ISP’s network. Unlike fibre broadband, the speed isn’t guaranteed. So, if your area is super congested, you may experience poor or sluggish network performance.

As for the cheapest plan with unlimited quota, you can check out Unifi Air wireless broadband plan. It comes with unlimited data, capped at 20Mbps and is available for RM70 per month with an RM100 upfront payment.

However, before you choose the plan you want to subscribe to, do check if your area is under the ISP’s coverage. Here are the coverage maps for the respective ISPs:

Does a gaming laptop under RM1500 exist?

This particular question posed a challenge for our resident PC guru, Mr Raymond. He says there are no gaming laptops on sale today for under 1500 ringgit, well brand new at least. The cheapest one that I could find at the time of writing on Shopee Mall is the MSI GF63 for RM2,808.

It is powered by a 10th Gen Intel® Core™ i5-10500H Processor and 8GB of RAM which can be expanded. There’s also an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 Max-Q with 4GB of GDDR6 VRAM. As for the display, you get a 15.6″ FHD 60Hz IPS panel.

With this configuration, you will be able to play AAA games at low to medium settings at 1080p, while the laptop shouldn’t have any issues handling e-sport titles like Counter-Strike, Rocket League and OverWatch.

Since then, there is a new cheapest gaming laptop on Shopee Mall, which is the Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3. It has a newer 11th Gen Intel processor but goes for a slightly lower price.

However, if you really need a gaming laptop on an RM1500 budget, you can look to the second-hand market like Carousell. Just remember that you will be getting much older hardware, and there is no warranty.
