[ UPDATE 17/06/2022 10:30 ] Rapid KL wants all users to download an app and fill up a survey form before enjoying the free rides.

In conjunction with the opening of MRT Putrajaya Line Phase 1, Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob has announced that all public transport rides under Rapid KL will be free for a month starting today, 16th June 2022. He said the move is to alleviate the cost of living increases Malaysians were currently facing.

Rapid KL currently operates the MRT, LRT, BRT, Monorail, and bus services in the Klang Valley. Take note that KTM Komuter and ERL are not managed by Rapid KL.

UPDATE: In a press conference, Ismail Sabri also announced one month of free rides for KTM Komuter starting from today. He said all of these subsidies to provide free rides cost RM155 million. The free ride promo runs from 16th June until 15th July 2022.

MRT Putrajaya or also known as MRT 2 is the latest rail line that covers a 17.5km distance with 12 stations from Kwasa Damansara to Kampung Batu. The service will be open to the public from 3pm today.

The remaining section of the MRT Putrajaya line which connects all the south to Putrajaya Central is scheduled to open in January 2023. The line also interchanges with MRT Kajang Line at Kwasa Damansara and Tun Razak Exchange.

The government has also recently revived the MRT 3 Circle Line project which is expected to be fully completed by 2030. Partial operations for the circle line are scheduled for 2028. Once completed, the circle line will allow commuters to travel across different ends of the Klang Valley without going through the city centre.

For public transport commuters, Rapid KL is offering the My50 unlimited travel pass which costs RM50/month. The monthly pass is offered to Malaysian citizens with valid MyKad or MyTentera ID, from 1st January 2022 to 31st December 2022.
