Samsung Malaysia has issued a notice that it will discontinue support for Boost QR payment on Samsung Pay from 15th November 2021. Boost was the first local eWallet to support Samsung Pay and it was integrated in March 2020. However, unlike a debit or credit card payment, you can’t use your phone’s NFC or MST feature to pay as it is based on a QR code system.
According to Samsung Malaysia’s announcement, all users will be required to perform a mandatory app update on 15th November but before that, all existing users with linked Boost account in Samsung Pay are still able to use the QR payment feature.
Samsung has also announced that effective 4th November 2021, all missing Samsung Reward Points requests with Samsung Pay Boost payment will no longer be manually credited. Users can only earn Samsung Reward points via Boost if payment was made to a Boost QR or DuitNow QR code that’s issued by Boost. This means you can’t earn points if you scan a DuitNow QR code that’s issued by other eWallets or local banks.
It isn’t clear why Samsung has decided to discontinue support for Boost on Samsung Pay. While it offers quicker access for Boost users to scan or show their QR code, its usage is still limited to merchants with Boost or DuitNow QR codes. Do you use Boost via Samsung Pay?
