Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has revealed the Proton S70 1.5T i-GT Premium which was launched back in February as the official taxi for the National Madani Taxi Reform Programme (IMTP). Available for individual taxi drivers, the S70 Taxi also carries several changes that differentiate it from existing taxis that you currently see on our roads.

Among them is the absence of a taxi topper (the signboard on the taxi’s roof), which has been replaced by LED digital signage that is placed on the front and rear windscreens. In a departure from the traditional red-white colourway for taxis, the government decided to retain the factory’s Ruby Red colourway for the S70 Taxi.
The new S70 taxi also features JPJePlate, which was previously reserved only for zero-emission vehicles such as battery-powered EVs and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. However, the version on the S70 Taxi has a grey colour code on the left side of the plate together with red lettering.
At the same time, the S70 taxi also received a GET number plate series, which we were told stands for Gabungan E-Hailing dan Teksi. Not to forget, it has also been equipped with a digital taxi meter.

Due to the provision set by Budget 2026, eligible taxi drivers will get to enjoy excise duty and sales tax exemptions for the S70 Taxi. This means they can get the S70 at a much lower price – at around RM64,500 versus the retail price of RM74,800 (inclusive of RM5,000 launch rebate).
In addition to that, taxi drivers can also obtain up to RM4,000 of trade-in support through the national old vehicle replacement scheme. We were told that the National Madani Taxi Reform Programme also offers several financing options, but regardless of their choice, taxi drivers will get to own their vehicle outright, which is a massive change as compared to the old taxi leasing system.
