DJI has finally revealed the Mavic 3, their new flagship drone. But that wasn’t the only new drone, as they’ve also released a higher spec version of it called the Mavic 3 Cine. Both are largely the same, but the Cine has a few choice upgrades targeting creative professionals.

The new drones feature a dual camera setup, with the main 20MP Hasselblad camera using a 4/3 CMOS. It has a 24mm lens with an 84° FOV, an f/2.8 to f/11 aperture and a 1m minimum focus. As for the supplementary tele camera, it’s a 12MP, f/4.4 shooter with a 162mm lens. It lets you zoom in up to 28x with hybrid zoom. In comparison, the DJI Air 2S and Mavic 2 Pro both use a 1-inch type sensor on their 20MP cameras. Both of those are also only limited to a maximum 4X zoom.

But while the DJI Mavic 3 and DJI Mavic 3 Cine can both record up to 5.1K footage at 50fps or 4K at up to 120fps, the Mavic 3 Cine has the advantage of recording not just H.264 and H.265 video but Apple ProRes 422 HQ footage too. The other big upgrade the Cine drone has is a built-in 1TB SSD, while the normal Mavic 3 only has 8GB of storage, and instead you’ll need to pop in a microSD card from their list of recommended ones. However, don’t expect PCIe Gen 4 speeds here, as DJI rates the SSD for 700MB/s and 471MB/s max read and write speeds.

Other than that though, they’re largely similar, with the Mavic 3 weighing 895g and the Mavic 3 Cine weighing 4g more, ostensibly for the built-in SSD. They have a rated flight time of 46 minutes, considerably more than the 31 minutes of the Mavic 2 Pro and Air 2S. Powering it is a 5,000mAh battery, while you’ll get a 65W charger in the box too.

On top of that, it also features OcuSync 3.0 for a 15km of range with a 1080p, 60fps live feed transmission to your smartphone. There’s omnidirectional obstacle sensing too, capable of detecting obstacles about 200m away. Together with it is the Advanced Pilot Assistance System 5.0 return to home function that lets the drone plan its way back to start.

Pricing and availability

The DJI Mavic 3 is currently available for pre-order on the DJI Official Store on Lazada and Shopee, with three options available. The base package will set you back RM9,799 and comes with the drone itself, the controller, a spare pair of control sticks, four cables for connectivity, a 65W charger, a storage cover, a flight battery and three extra pair of propellers. If you get the Fly More combo though, it’ll cost you RM12,399 but does get you all of the above as well as a battery charging hub, a set of neutral density filters, six pairs of propellers, three flight batteries and a convertible carrying bag.

However, if you much rather prefer to get the Mavic 3 Cine, it’ll be available for a whopping RM22,899. This comes with the drone, a Pro controller, a spare pair of control sticks, a storage cover, a USB-C cable, a battery charging hub, three flight batteries, a convertible carrying bag, a 10Gbps data cable, six pairs of propellers, a 65W charger and two sets of neutral density filters. If all of this sounds too expensive for your tastes, or maybe you’re just looking for a more entry-level drone, you can perhaps look at the DJI Mini SE that launched back in June instead.

According to the Lazada listing for the DJI Mavic 3, if you opt to pre-order it, it’ll be shipped out by the 19th of November. For more information about the DJI Mavic 3 and Mavic 3 Cine, you can check out the product page for it on the DJI website.
