Samsung still pushes security updates for 4 year old Galaxy Note FE

Samsung has recently pledged that it will provide four years of security updates for Galaxy devices that are launched since 2019. It appears that Samsung is also doing the same for older devices as the Galaxy Note FE that was released in 2017 is still getting security updates today.

According to Sammobile, the Galaxy Note FE which is also known as the “fixed” Galaxy Note 7 has recently received a new update with a firmware version (N935FXXS8CUD1). It comes with a security patch dated April 2021 and it is said to be pushed to users in Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Thailand and Vietnam.

The Galaxy Note 7 was launched with Android 7.0 out of the box and the last major update was Android 9 with OneUI back in 2019. Although the Galaxy Note 7 is over 4 generations old, it is good that Samsung is still pushing security updates for owners that are still holding on to the device. This will help address new security vulnerabilities that are discovered from time to time.

The Galaxy Note FE is last Galaxy Note device to come with a physical home button that has an integrated fingerprint sensor. Unlike the ill-fated Galaxy Note 7, the battery is slightly smaller at 3,200mAh instead of 3,500mAh.

Moving forward, new Samsung Galaxy phones including select Galaxy A models will get 3 generations of Android OS updates. On top of that, you’ll also receive an additional year of security updates.
