The Redmi Note 5 is finally official in Malaysia and it succeeds its popular Redmi Note 4 series. This is Xiaomi’s mid-range smartphone that offers top specs for less than RM1,000.
To recap, the Redmi Note 5 features a 5.99” Full HD+ display in an 18:9 aspect ratio and it runs on a newer 14nm Snapdragon 636 processor. It also uses a high performance LPDDRX RAM which is often found on flagship phones. Like the Redmi Note 4, it comes with either 3GB RAM + 32GB of storage or 4GB RAM + 64GB of storage. If you need more storage, you can add a microSD card but do note that it uses a hybrid dual-SIM slot. This means you can either use 2 nano-SIMs or 1 nano-SIM with a microSD card.
The Redmi Note 5 promises to deliver a flagship camera experience. It gets a 12MP + 5MP dual-camera combo that uses dual-pixel auto focus and it has a faster f/1.9 lens for better low light performance. Using its secondary camera, the Redmi Note 5 can take bokehlicious portrait shots using AI for better edge detection. Meanwhile, the front gets a 13MP selfie shooter with its own Beautify 4.0 feature. Despite having a single camera, it also allows you to take depth of field portrait selfies.
The Redmi Note 5 is powered by a 4,000mAh battery which is rated to last up to 2 days with average use. It charges via microUSB instead of USB-C and it comes with a standard 5V/2A charging brick. Out of the box, it runs on MIUI 9.5 that’s based on Android 8.1 Oreo.
The Redmi Note 5 is officially priced at RM799 for 3GB RAM + 32GB of storage and RM999 for 4GB RAM + 64GB of storage. It comes in Gold, Blue and Black. You can get it at Mi authorised stores and online channels throughout Malaysia. Preorder starts tomorrow on 25 April 2018 and stocks will be available on 5 May 2018.
To secure your unit, you can order online via Lazada at midnight tonight.
UPDATE: As a pre-order promo, they are giving away 1,000 AirAsia Points on the official Mi Store on Lazada. If you’re interested, you can check out the product pages for both 3GB RAM + 32GB storage and 4GB RAM + 64GB storage.
