Huawei P60 series and Mate X3 foldable are launching on 23rd March

A month after MWC 2023, Huawei is launching two flagship smartphones in China, the P60 series and its new Mate X3 foldable device. Both are expected to run on Qualcomm flagship chips and the P60’s biggest highlight would be its new camera array.

The Huawei P60 series and the Mate X3 will be announced during Huawei’s Spring product launch which is scheduled at 2:30pm on 23rd March 2023. The official teaser image reveals a round and triangular wave which could be hinting the round camera bump on the P60 and the inward foldable design of the Mate X3.

Taking a notch up from the current Mate 50 Pro, the Huawei P60 is expected to run on a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor and feature a triple-camera setup that uses Huawei’s XMAGE imaging technology. Unlike the previous P50 series, the new P60 seems to have a smaller camera island with a single protruding large camera lens presumably for the main camera. However, the centre-aligned punch-hole camera seems to be extended to house potentially a more advanced sensor for facial recognition or 3D depth sensing.

For the upcoming Huawei Mate X3, we are guessing that Huawei is likely to go back to an inward folding design similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4, Honor Magic Vs and Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold 2. Huawei started its foldable journey with the Mate X which gets an outward-facing folding screen and eventually released two updates with the Mate XS and the Mate XS 2. Two years ago, Huawei did release an inward-facing version similar to the Galaxy Z Fold series that’s called the Mate X2 but it was never released in Malaysia. In terms of specs, word has it that it may be running on an older Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip but without 5G.

With Malaysia being a key international market for Huawei, we expect both the P60 series and Mate X3 to hit our shores very soon. Its former sub-brand Honor has recently launched two flagships – the Magic 5 Pro and the Magic Vs foldable. Both are expected to arrive in Malaysia early next month.
