Unlike other apps like Telegram, WhatsApp has been quite slow at releasing chat transfer features. Luckily for us, WABetaInfo found a new feature in the latest WhatsApp beta that will allow you to transfer your WhatsApp chat history from Android to iOS. However, you will need to use Apple‘s ‘Move to iOS’ app.
Let’s do a quick refresher on WhatsApp’s current chat transfer abilities. Moving over your chat history from iOS to Samsung devices is currently available. Additionally, WhatsApp and Google worked together to allow iOS to Pixel phone chat transfer. Going from iOS to Android 12 devices with your WhatsApp chats will be allowed in the future, and Android to iOS transfers have been teased by the head of WhatsApp Will Cathcart for months.
Thanks to these screenshots from WABetaInfo, we can finally see what the feature will look like. The app will ask for your permission to restore your chats and warns you that the import cannot be done later if you skip the step. Once you start the transfer, the app will ask you to keep your phone unlocked and the app open.
It’s reported that the chat history transfer will require using the ‘Move to iOS’ app. This is an app that Apple put on the Google Play store that allows users to transfer their data over from Android to a new iOS device. Knowing this, we can assume that transferring your chat history can only be done with an iOS device that has been reset.
Even though it requires another app to work, this feature will be extremely useful for new Apple users migrating from Android. Currently, the only way to transfer your WhatsApp chat history from Android to iOS is through third-party services like Dr. Fone. Even though these could work, I still recommend using a native feature, especially when dealing with important files.
The feature is not available right now, but it will hopefully be released to the public soon.
