Apple has unveiled its new MacBook Pro with a touch-enabled PROLED XDR Display, marking the first time a MacBook comes with a touchscreen.

Powered by the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, the new models also feature a thinner and lighter design, along with the return of the iconic illuminated Apple logo after it was removed from the lid 10 years ago.

The new MacBook Pro PROLED XDR will be available in Malaysia from 6 November, with prices starting from RM11,999.

Apple will still continue selling its existing MacBook Pro with Liquid Retina XDR (mini-LED) Display alongside the new models.

Apple MacBook Pro PROLED XDR Malaysia pricing and availability

The new MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display is offered in 14-inch and 16-inch sizes, with the following starting prices in Malaysia:

  • 14-inch MacBook Pro PROLED XDR (M5 Pro) – from RM11,999
  • 14-inch MacBook Pro PROLED XDR (M5 Max) – from RM19,299
  • 16-inch MacBook Pro PROLED XDR (M5 Pro) – from RM14,499
  • 16-inch MacBook Pro PROLED XDR (M5 Max) – from RM20,499

The base 14-inch model comes with an M5 Pro chip featuring a 15-core CPU and 16-core GPU while the base 16-inch model gets an M5 Pro chip with an 18-core CPU and 20-core GPU. Both base configurations come with 24GB of unified memory and 1TB of SSD storage.

Pre-orders will open in Malaysia at 9am on Friday, 30 October 2026, with official availability starting Friday, 6 November 2026.

For comparison, here’s how much the existing MacBook Pro models with mini-LED Liquid Retina XDR displays cost in Malaysia:

  • 14-inch MacBook Pro (M5 Pro – from RM10,299
  • 14-inch MacBook Pro (M5 Max) – from RM15,599
  • 16-inch MacBook Pro (M5 Pro) – from RM12,499
  • 14-inch MacBook Pro (M5 Max) – from RM18,499

Based on their respective starting prices, the new PROLED XDR versions cost RM1,700 more for the 14-inch model and RM2,000 more for the 16-inch model.

If money is no object, a fully specced 16-inch MacBook Pro PROLED XDR with an M5 Max chip featuring an 18-core CPU and 40-core GPU, 128GB of unified memory, 16TB SSD storage and nano-texture display glass will set you back a whopping RM64,174 in Malaysia.

Apple MacBook Pro PROLED XDR specs and features

The biggest highlight of the new MacBook Pro is its touch-enabled PROLED XDR Display, which uses Tandem OLED technology instead of the mini-LED panels found on the existing models.

The display boasts a 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio, up to 2,000 nits peak brightness for both HDR and SDR content, and ProMotion with an adaptive refresh rate of between 10Hz and 120Hz. It also supports P3 and Adobe RGB colour spaces, making it suitable for professional photo and video editing workflows.

Users can interact directly with macOS by tapping, swiping, pinching to zoom and dragging content across the screen. The touch sensor is integrated directly into the display panel, while a redesigned hinge provides greater stability when using the touchscreen.

Apple has also introduced Dynamic Island to the MacBook Pro, allowing users to access notifications, music controls, calls and Live Activities directly from the display.

Another notable change is the return of the illuminated Apple logo on the back of the display. The glowing logo was once a signature feature of Apple’s laptops before it was removed during the MacBook Pro redesign in 2016.

The new MacBook Pro PROLED XDR also gets a slimmer chassis and significant weight reduction.

The 14-inch model weighs approximately 1.36kg, compared to 1.60kg for the mini-LED version, making it around 240g lighter. Meanwhile, the larger 16-inch model weighs approximately 1.81kg, compared to 2.14kg for the mini-LED model, representing a reduction of around 330g.

In terms of thickness, the 14-inch model is approximately 0.5mm thinner, while the 16-inch version is nearly 1mm slimmer than their mini-LED counterparts.

Despite the slimmer design and new OLED display, battery life remains unchanged. The 14-inch model is rated for up to 22 hours, while the 16-inch version offers up to 24 hours on a single charge. Both also support fast charging, allowing the battery to charge from 0 to 50% in approximately 30 minutes.

Another major upgrade is storage capacity, which can now be configured with up to 16TB of SSD storage.

That’s double the 8TB maximum offered on the existing MacBook Pro, although unified memory still maxes out at 128GB.

For connectivity, the new MacBook Pro retains three Thunderbolt 5 ports, an HDMI port, an SDXC card slot, MagSafe charging and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Wireless connectivity includes Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.

Other features include a 12MP Center Stage camera, studio-quality microphones and an improved six-speaker sound system with 50% deeper bass. It runs on macOS 27 Golden Gate.

With both versions available, would you pay a premium for the new PROLED XDR model with touchscreen support or save up to RM2,000 by settling for the Liquid Retina XDR version instead?
