TQ Wuling has officially launched the new TQ Wuling Porta EV in Malaysia. The new electric van is the second product that TQ Wuling has launched in our market, following the release of the Bingo EV last year.

Just like the Bingo EV, the Porta EV is being locally assembled (CKD) at Tan Chong Motor’s plant in Jalan Segambut, Kuala Lumpur. In case you are not familiar with the brand, TQ Wuling was born through a collaboration between Tan Chong Motor and SAIC-GM-Wuling.

TQ Wuling Porta EV Malaysia Pricing, Warranty

The TQ Wuling Porta EV is available in two variants, which correspond to their respective CLTC-rated range:

  • TQ Wuling Porta EV 400km (328km WLTP est) – RM105,800
  • TQ Wuling Porta EV 300km (245km WLTP est) – RM99,800 (estimated)

At the moment, only the Porta EV 400km is available for immediate purchase. While the Porta EV 300km is available for booking, this variant will only be released later this year, which is why it doesn’t have a confirmed price tag yet.

The Porta EV is covered by a 5-year / 120,000km vehicle warranty, alongside a separate 5-year / 200,000km warranty for its EV drive motor, high-voltage battery, and battery management system (BMS). Interestingly enough, TQ Wuling also provides a dedicated 6-year / 300,000km warranty specifically for the battery cells inside its high-voltage battery pack.

TQ Wuling Porta EV Malaysia Early Bird Offer

Early adopters of the new Porta EV will receive a free 7kW AC wallbox charger and a 3-pin portable EV charger. At the same time, they will also be provided with free scheduled maintenance for 3 years or 60,000km, whichever comes first.

TQ Wuling Porta EV Malaysia Quick Specs

Known as the Wuling Yangguang in China, the new TQ Wuling Porta EV measures 5,010mm long, 1,800mm wide, and up to 1,975mm tall, alongside a 3,050mm wheelbase. It boasts a 6.5m³ cargo space and is capable of carrying a payload of over 1,000kg.

In addition to that, several design features on the Porta EV are meant to help users get cargo in and out of the van more easily, including 777mm-tall sliding doors on both sides, a 270-degree wide rear door opening, and a 595mm loading height.

TQ Wuling also claims that the Porta EV’s wide rear door opening and loading height allow for direct forklift access, with the van itself able to accommodate a standard pallet size of 1,100mm x 1,100mm. The company actually put these design traits into action during the launch event today:

Meanwhile, the Porta EV features a rear-wheel drive (RWD) setup with a 75kW (101hp) electric motor that churns out 180Nm of torque. The Porta EV has a top speed of 115km/h, though its official 0–100km/h figure was not listed in the Malaysian specification sheet.

Then again, a commercial van is not meant to go fast, and not all RWD vehicles are performance vehicles.

Anyway, the Porta EV 400km is powered by a 56.2kWh LFP-based Wuling Magic battery, while the Porta EV 300km runs on a 41.9kWh battery. In terms of DC charging, here are the differences between the two variants:

  • TQ Wuling Porta EV 400km: 115kW – 20 minutes (20% to 80%)
  • TQ Wuling Porta EV 300:km 50kW – 30 minutes (20% to 80%)

Both variants also support 6.6kW AC charging — TQ Wuling states that it takes around 6.75 hours to charge the Porta EV 400km from 20% to 80%, and 5.15 hours for the Porta EV 300km.

Fitted with a MacPherson front suspension and a 5-leaf spring setup at the back, the Porta EV’s braking system comprises front disc brakes and rear drum brakes. It rides on 15-inch wheels wrapped in Linglong Radial 666 195/70 R15 tyres.

Inside the front cabin, you will find a pair of seats with fabric upholstery, while the centre console houses several storage compartments, a mechanical handbrake lever, and a rotary drive mode selector. There is also an 8-inch infotainment screen and an analogue instrument cluster with a 3.5-inch TFT screen positioned between the speedometer and energy meter.

Safety-wise, the Porta EV features 2 front airbags, Antilock Brake System (ABS) with Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist (BA), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Electronic Traction Control (ETC), Hill Start Assist, and a Low Speed Pedestrian Alarm. For added convenience, the new electric van comes standard with a reverse camera and sensors.
