The Malaysian Takaful Association (MTA) and Life Insurance Association of Malaysia (LIAM) have recently launched the Semak Kasih portal. Developed under the watchful eyes of Bank Negara Malaysia, the web portal allows the public to easily verify whether a deceased family member has a takaful or life insurance policy.
In general, the most important document required to perform the search through Semak Kasih is a clear copy of the deceased’s death certificate that is issued by the National Registration Department (JPN). As part of the search process, users will be asked to upload the copy into the platform.

However, do note that Semak Kasih is not able to provide in-depth details of the takaful or life insurance policy. The portal is only able to tell you whether the deceased has such an arrangement under his or her name.
If there is a matching record, users will then be provided with the contact details of the takaful or insurance company. Else, a notice that says “No takaful certificates/insurance policies found in our records” will be displayed by the portal.

Meanwhile, do note that users can only perform 3 searches per day. The portal will reset the search limit 24 hours after users hit the daily quota.
It is quite often that families have difficulties tracing the financial arrangements of a family member who has passed away. While Semak Kasih doesn’t provide end-to-end service, the portal can still serve as the main starting point for families that want to trace any potential takaful or life insurance benefits that have been arranged by their deceased family member.
