Revealed alongside the CKD version of the BMW i5 eDrive 40 M Sport Pro, the BMW iX1 eDrive20L M Sport has made its debut in Malaysia. The compact electric SUV is also marked as yet another first for BMW Malaysia.

Specifically, it is the first BMW EV with a long-wheelbase in our market. Unlike the i5, the iX1 L was fully imported (CBU) from China.

The BMW iX1 eDrive20L M Sport made its way to Malaysia with an estimated price of RM255,000. The reason why the pricing is still an estimate instead of confirmed pricing is likely due to the CBU EV tax policy that has not yet been addressed by the government.

As a comparison, the standard wheelbase version of iX1 eDrive20 M Sport is currently priced at RM250,800 according to BMW Malaysia’s latest price list. The pricing mentioned here does not include the BMW Service & Repair Inclusive (BSRI) package, which provides service coverage for 6 years and 5 years of extended warranty.

BMW iX1 eDrive20L vs standard iX1 eDrive20: What’s the difference?

It might be hard to recognise the new long-wheelbase version unless you put it next to the standard version, but don’t worry: the eDrive20 emblem on the back of the car has the letter L next to it. The iX1 L also has a panoramic skyroof, while several parts of the car feature Shadowline trims, such as the grille and lights.

When you compare the figures, the iX1 L is 116mm longer than the standard iX1, and its wheelbase is also 116mm longer. This resulted in an additional 81mm of legroom, together with an extra 107mm of knee room for the rear passenger.

BMW Malaysia also said that the cushion base for the rear seats has received a 15mm extension. At the same time, softer foam has also been implemented into the seats, while the company has also opted for a new comfort-oriented suspension system for the iX1 L over the Adaptive M suspension that was equipped in the standard iX1.

Unlike the standard model, the iX1 L comes with Driving Assistance Plus by default. The package provides the SUV with additional ADAS  features such as Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Steering & Lane Control Assistant, Speed Limit Info and Lane Departure Warning with Lane Return.

When it comes to battery and drivetrain, the setup on the iX1 L is similar to the standard iX1, which includes 66.5kWh battery alongside a 150kW (201hp) electric motor that also produces 250Nm of torque. The same also applies to its charging capabilities, as the iX1 L continue to feature an 11kW AC charging module and supports DC charging speed of up to 130kW.

That being said, the iX1 L’s WLTP-rated range is much lower at 433km, compared to the iX1 with standard wheelbase, which is listed as 475km. That’s a difference of 42km, which is quite notable.

Other identical features that you can also find on the iX1 L include a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.7-inch infotainment display, BMW Operating System 9, Harman Kardon audio system, Parking Assistant Plus package, and adaptive LED headlights.
