Charge Point Operator, ChargeSini, has started transitioning from time-based to kWh-based pricing for their EV chargers. Instead of paying by the minute, you can pay ChargeSini charging sessions based on actual electricity consumed, which is a fairer and more equitable way to pay for EV charging.

From what we can see from ChargeSini’s app, most of its popular EV charging locations now show kWh-based pricing. We are told that the transition is done in phases subject to approvals from the Energy Commission (ST). In case you didn’t know, all public chargers require ST’s EVCS licence in order to charge based on kWh instead of time.

Before this, most ChargeSini chargers were typically priced at RM0.20 per minute (for 11kW and below) and RM0.80 per minute (for 47kW and below).

The pricing for ChargeSini chargers varies depending on location. Most of its AC charge points are priced at RM1.09 per kWh (for 11.7kW and below) while the DC chargers start from RM1.19 per kWh (for 60kW and below). The pricing increases with higher output and you could be looking at paying between RM1.29 per kWh (100kW and below) and RM1.49 per kWh (180kW and below).

Do note that ChargeSini is charging users based on the average power received by the EV, instead of the charger’s capable output. This is great for EVs that can’t take advantage of the maximum possible DC charging speed throughout the session.

At MyTown Mall in Cheras, the rates are much higher at RM1.30 per kWh for AC charging (11.7kW and below) and RM1.39 per kWh for DC charging (40kW and below). Meanwhile, at KSL City Mall in Johor Bahru, the charger is priced at RM1.14 per kWh for AC charging (11.7kW and below) and RM1.24 per kWh for DC charging (60kW and below).

To prevent hoggers, ChargeSini charging bays are protected by automated parking barriers, allowing users to reserve their charging spot before they arrive. Unlike Shell Recharge x ParkEasy, there’s no additional confirmation fee. However, ChargeSini charges a minimum of RM5.00 for each charging session.

You can activate the chargers via the ChargeSini app which is available on Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
