Apple has officially announced the iPhone Duo, its first foldable iPhone and arguably the biggest change to the iPhone form factor since the original model.
It is described as a new design that preserves everything you love about iPhone.
Similar to the latest barrage of foldable devices, the iPhone Duo has adopted a passport sized 5.4-inch form factor which can unfold to reveal a 7.6-inch inner display. Apple says the iPhone Duo is its thinnest iPhone when opened, while the inner display is also the largest display fitted to an iPhone to date.
The iPhone Duo is officially coming to Malaysia next month.

Malaysians can pre-order the iPhone Duo from 8pm on Friday, 16 October, with official availability starting on Friday, 23 October. Malaysia is among over 70 countries and regions included in the first wave.
iPhone Duo Specs and Features
The main highlight of the iPhone Duo is naturally its folding display. On the outside is a 5.4-inch Super Retina XDR display, while opening the device reveals a larger 7.6-inch Super Retina XDR folding display.
Apple says the outer screen offers 90 percent of the screen area of the iPhone 18 Pro, while the inner display is 50 percent larger than the display on the iPhone 18 Pro Max. Both screens use the same aspect ratio, allowing content to scale proportionally when switching between the two displays.
Both screens also support ProMotion, Always-On display and up to 3,000 nits of peak outdoor brightness. The folding screen gets a nano-texture finish which is designed to reduce glare and reflections while making the display crease less noticeable. There’s also an under display FaceTime camera which is hidden when the camera is not in used, which is similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 6.
Interestingly, the fingerprint sensor is back on the iPhone as Apple has gone with Touch ID rather than Face ID. The fingerprint sensor is integrated into the side button and works whether the iPhone Duo is folded or unfolded. Camera Control is also included which allows you to launch the camera immediately.
If you want to use a stylus, support for the USB-C Apple Pencil will arrive later this year. It will be supported for both inner and cover displays.
In terms of build quality, the iPhone Duo uses Grade 5 titanium for the frame, together with a hinge made from more than 100 components. The hinge cover itself is 3D printed from titanium. It uses Ceramic Shield for the rear while Ceramic Shield 2 is used for the outer display.
Despite having a folding mechanism, the iPhone Duo still carries an IP68 rating for splash, water and dust resistance.
Under the hood, the iPhone Duo runs on the same A20 Pro chip as the iPhone 18 Pro models. It features a 6-core CPU, 7-core GPU and dual 16-core Neural Engine.
Apple says the CPU is up to 20 percent faster than the A19 Pro, while the GPU is up to 40 percent faster and more power efficient. The A20 Pro is built on a 2nm process and gets 50 percent more unified memory bandwidth compared to its predecessor.
To manage thermals in the thin foldable chassis, Apple has developed a custom vapour chamber that connects directly to the A20 Pro package.
In the camera department, the iPhone Duo gets a dual 48MP camera setup consisting of a 48MP Fusion Main camera and a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide camera. The main camera also provides an optical-quality 2x zoom option, while the Ultra Wide supports macro photography. Unfortunately, there’s no dedicated telephoto camera which is the same situation with the Galaxy Z Fold 8.
Besides using the usual front camera, the folding design lets you use the higher-resolution rear cameras for selfies while previewing the shot on the outer screen.
There is also Duo Preview, which displays a live camera preview on the outer screen for the subject, while Smart Take uses on-device AI to automatically capture a photo when it detects that the subjects are posing. Kid Cue can display Peanuts animations on the outer screen to get a child’s attention towards the camera.
The 48MP Main camera supports up to 4K 120fps Dolby Vision video recording.
When it comes to battery life, Apple says the iPhone Duo is able to provide for up to 31 hours of video playback using the inner display or up to 44 hours when using the outer display. When both displays are used equally, Apple claims up to 24 hours of usage per charge.
For charging, Apple says the iPhone Duo can reach 50% charge in about 20 minutes with fast wired charging. MagSafe and Qi2 wireless charging can reach 50% in around 30 minutes.
One significant change is that the iPhone Duo is eSIM-only worldwide, which means there is no physical SIM card slot even on the Malaysian model. This is the similar case as the current iPhone Air. For wireless connectivity, it uses Apple’s N1 networking chip with support for WiFi 7, Bluetooth 6 and Thread, while cellular connectivity is handled by Apple’s C2 modem which boasts faster uploads and improved power efficiency.
On the software front, the iPhone Duo ships with iOS 27.1. Apple has redesigned parts of iOS specifically for the foldable display, including the Home Screen, Dynamic Island and app navigation.
More importantly, the larger inner screen supports Split View, allowing two apps to run side by side on an iPhone for the first time. Users can also open two windows of the same app and save app pairings for quicker access later.
The iPhone Duo will also support Apple Intelligence and Siri AI, although the features and language rollout varies depending on region and supported languages.
