Transport Minister Anthony Loke has reminded students to redeem their FLYsiswa flight ticket subsidy which is aimed at addressing concerns of cost of living. He said 50,096 higher education students are eligible to redeem FLYsiswa and only 72% of them have claimed their digital voucher so far. This leaves about 14,000 students remaining who have yet to redeem the flight ticket subsidy.

Loke said, “I hope to publicise this initiative so that the students would redeem the aid before December 31, but they can collect their flight tickets any time next year whether it be during festive season or holiday season.” He added that his ministry hopes that there will be a 100 per cent redemption and FLYsiswa will be made available yearly as mentioned by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

The minister said for now FLYsiswa is offering RM300 and the government will look into its financial abilities before deciding if it can increase the amount in future. His ministry is also looking at expanding the category of people who would be eligible to benefit from FLYsiswa.

Who is eligible for FLYsiswa?

The government agreed on FLYsiswa on 12th July and it was rolled out starting 15th August 2023. Eligible students can redeem the RM300 as a digital voucher from their preferred airline and it can be used for flights between West and East Malaysia as well as flights between Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan.

Initially offered to public university students, FLYsiswa was eventually expanded to students in polytechnic and community colleges under the Higher Education Ministry, matriculation students and Teachers Learning Institute under the Education Ministry starting in October.

Students can check their eligibility via the FLYsiswa portal. Just enter the IC and select the name of the institution of higher learning.

How to redeem FLYsiswa RM300 credit?

When it was first announced, students could redeem the RM300 flight subsidy as a digital voucher via Malaysia Airlines (including MASwings and Firefly), AirAsia, Batik Air and MYAirline. Once redeemed, it becomes a credit shell with the airline and it can be used for more than one flight if there’s leftover credit. The credit will be valid for the travel period until 31st December 2024.

If you’re eligible, here’s how you can redeem your RM300 FLYsiswa credit:
