Yinson GreenTech (YGT) is partnering with PLUS Malaysia to build the first-ever chargEV Hyperpower DC fast charging hub in the country. The new announcement came just a day after the company revealed its partnership with Pos Malaysia which resulted in the deployment of 40kW DCFCs at six General Post Offices (Pejabat Pos Besar) across the country.

Also claimed to be Malaysia’s first fast charging hub, the new establishment will be located at the PLUS Seremban R&R (Southbound) area. Interestingly enough, YGT is planning to deploy eight charging bays at the hub with the capability to deliver a power output of up to 350kW each.

The upcoming hub will not only feature superfast chargEV Hyperpower DC chargers but will also come with its own food and beverages outlets as well as other amenities.

Both parties will also collectively work to develop new ideas that will cater to the growth of the EV market, such as Malaysia’s first fast charging hub with dynamic load balancing technology or the level 3 DC charging solutions which allow optimal and efficient charging power among charging stations. This ensures a faster and more reliable charging experience for EV users.

Yinson GreenTech / PLUS announcement, 23 June 2023

The idea to look into dynamic load balancing does not come as a surprise though since it is a rather sensible way to manage the hub’s power consumption that will be rather high. That being said, YGT already has some experience with the technology through its Kempower installation at Berjaya Times Square.

As interesting as this announcement may sound, the actual launch date of the new chargEV fast charging hub in Seremban R&R has not yet been finalised. That being said though, YGT has committed to launch two such hubs throughout PLUS highway by 2025.

In today’s announcement, the company also said that it will upgrade the existing EV charging facilities at the R&R Tapah (Southbound), Dengkil (Southbound), Gunung Semanggol (Northbound), Pagoh (Southbound), and Seremban (Northbound) to DC fast chargers within this year. Back in November last year, YGT also deployed the much-needed upgrade for the EV charger at the Ayer Keroh Overhead Bridge Restaurants which was originally launched in 2018 but fell into disrepair several years later.

All in all, the plan by YGT and PLUS to build EV charging hubs is yet another positive development for EV infrastructure in Malaysia. As the number of EVs begins to rise quickly, having a substantial number of fast chargers throughout highways are quite fundamental to help alleviate the issue of range anxiety during interstate travel.

In order to make this possible though, energy providers such as TNB also have to increase the power capacity along the highways. With that, we do hope that the relevant stakeholders and decision-makers are able to work together in a timely manner to accelerate the development of EV charging infrastructure in Malaysia, especially given the fact that the country is still trailing far behind the aim to have 10,000 charge points nationwide by 2025.
