Huawei Watch GT Cyber Malaysia: Smartwatch with interchangeable case costs RM999

Aside from the MatePad 11 2023, Huawei has also launched a distinctive new smartwatch called the Watch GT Cyber. Its claim to fame is the ability to swap not just the straps but the entire case, giving you the possibility of changing up the look of the device.

Huawei Watch GT Cyber Malaysia pricing and availability

The Watch GT Cyber is offered in two variants—a Sport Edition in Midnight Black and an Urban Edition in Golden Black, each differing in the case colours. Prices are as follows:

  • Huawei Watch GT Cyber Sport Edition (Midnight Black) – RM999
  • Huawei Watch GT Cyber Urban Edition (Golden Black) – RM1,099

In stark contrast to the MatePad 11’s online-only sales approach, the Watch GT Cyber is exclusively available at Switch’s Urban Republic retail stores. Pre-orders are again open until April 14 and will include two free cases and straps—Space Grey and Sunrise Yellow—worth RM179. The company is also offering PwP deals such as RM220 off a second Watch GT Cyber and a 20% off additional straps.

Huawei Watch GT Cyber specs and features

At the heart of the Watch GT Cyber is the circular Smart Movement, which houses the 1.32-inch AMOLED touchscreen (which, by the way, has a resolution of 466×466 pixels and a pixel density of 352ppi) and the device’s guts. You simply press on the glass crystal to pop the puck-shaped component out of the case, crown and all.

Despite its bulky looks, the case itself isn’t actually that large, measuring 44.4mm from top to bottom, although the crown guards add quite a bit of width and visual heft. It’s made from fibre-reinforced plastic (FRP) on the Sport Edition and stainless steel on the Urban Edition, the latter also coming with a nanocrystal ceramic bezel. Non-removable rubber straps are fitted to both models. Put together, the watch is 10.2mm thick and weighs 58g for the Sport Edition and 78g for the Urban Edition.

Users can choose from several fairly outlandish faces, some of which were clearly inspired by Casio’s iconic G-Shock watches. They can also customise the colour of the faces, such as Kaleidoscope, simply by taking a photo. Do note that this feature, along with the Portrait face, is only available when the watch is paired to an Android device; iOS users are out of luck here.

Of course, there are the usual smartwatch features, including the ability to view notifications and answer or reject calls. You also get a voice assistant to operate functions like alarms, countdowns, web searches and activating the watch’s sport modes.

Speaking of which, the Watch GT Cyber is able to track your workout metrics when playing various sports, even including skiing and snowboarding. These form part of the over 100 available workout modes, which cover everything from the usual runs, swims and bike rides all the way to fringe activities like Frisbee, skateboarding and even parkour. As with most other smartwatches, the Watch GT Cyber is capable of measuring your heart rate and blood oxygen saturation, as well as tracking your sleep.

In terms of battery life, Huawei is touting seven days of typical usage and four days of heavy usage. One unique feature is support for Qi wireless charging, although the device continues to ship with a proprietary charging cradle. The watch is water resistant up to 50m and is claimed to have withstood 16 military-grade durability tests.
