Attention gamers—Samsung has a new product for you to spend your hard-earned money. The Odyssey OLED G8 monitor, revealed at IFA 2022 in Berlin in September, is an exceedingly costly addition to your rig, and it isn’t even the biggest you can find for the price. But it is Samsung’s first OLED gaming monitor, which partly explains the expense.

The Odyssey OLED G8 is available in a single 34-inch size in silver, priced at a whopping RM7,599. Pre-orders made from November 10 to 20 will include a free HW-B450 soundbar worth RM799, while stocks last. Customers may purchase the monitor at the Samsung Online Store and the official Shopee and Lazada stores.
Samsung Odyssey OLED G8 specs and features
As the name suggests, the Odyssey OLED G8 is unique in that it features an OLED panel with Samsung’s Quantum Dot Technology, allowing it to achieve VESA DisplayHDR 400 True Black certification and a million-to-one static contrast ratio. The 21:9 ultra-wide display boasts a Quad HD (3,440×1,440) resolution, 250 nits of brightness, 99.3% DCI-P3 colour coverage and what Samsung calls a “100% colour volume,” meaning that the screen maintains colour coverage no matter the brightness.
For gamers, the Odyssey OLED G8 has a scant 0.1ms response time, although the refresh rate isn’t quite as high as some other Odyssey models at 175Hz. It’s further enhanced by AMD FreeSync Premium for smoother gameplay.
The display measures just 3.9mm thick at its thinnest part and is mounted on a metal frame with a 1800R curvature. It’s mounted on a height- and tilt-adjustable stand, appearing to sprout out of an illuminated circular orb featuring the Odyssey lineup‘s trademark Core Lighting+ technology with Core Sync. This has been upgraded for the Odyssey OLED G8 and can now display a full colour gradient.
In terms of I/O, the display comes with a Micro HDMI port, a Mini DisplayPort and two USB-C ports, although a full HDMI port and Thunderbolt port are conspicuously missing. It plays sound through 5W speakers.
The Odyssey OLED G8 is also a smart monitor—if you want to take a break from gaming, the Smart Hub lets you watch shows from providers like Netflix, YouTube and Amazon Prime, along with free live content through Samsung TV Plus. The SmartThings app also allows you to control smart home devices through the monitor.
