Elon Musk wants Twitter to let everyone edit their tweets for free, not just Blue subscribers

As we’ve reported many different times, Elon Musk is bringing lots of changes to Twitter after buying the company last week. And there are plenty more coming, including the ability to edit tweets, an almost mythical (and highly requested) feature that finally became a reality last month.

The edit button is currently reserved for subscribers to Twitter Blue—which, by the way, still isn’t available in Malaysia—who pay USD4.99 (RM23.70) per month. But a Bloomberg report states that the feature could be released to everyone for free, and it could do so as soon as this week.

At the moment, Twitter Blue’s edit feature allows users to edit their tweet up to five times within 30 minutes of posting it, with the entire edit history being visible to everyone. Interactions of the tweet are split between the original and the edited version, although only the latter can accept new interactions. It’s likely this functionality will be pushed out to other users with this move.

– Ability to post long video & audio
– Half as many ads

Making the edit button public will take away one of the key features of Twitter Blue, which also includes the ability to undo a tweet. But Musk is proposing a few new functions for the subscription, including a verified badge (a suggestion that has caused its own share of controversy and scams), giving the user priority in replies, mentions and searches, and halving the number of ads being shown. The additions are meant to justify a planned price increase to USD8 (RM38), which could be rolled out as soon as Monday.
