Get both high speed and unlimited internet with no FUP with Yes | Ask Us Anything #33

Welcome back to another episode of Ask Us Anything, where we gather your questions from the internet and answer them.

In today’s episode, we look at the unlimited internet plan offered by Yes and answer what gaming phones can you get for under RM1,500 and an aftermarket infotainment system for the Proton Saga SV.

Unlimited internet plan offered by Yes

I would like to address an oversight that I made in AUA Episode 31. I listed unlimited internet plans from Celcom, Unifi, U mobile and Yoodo. But it was brought to my attention that I missed out Yes by viewers of this show. Therefore, here’s what Yes has to offer.

Called Infinite+ postpaid plan, you have four options to choose from, with the Standard option for RM88 a month fitting nicely under the RM100 budget. What you get is Unlimited full speed 5G and 4G data with, according to Yes, no Fair Usage Policy or FUP. This plan also bundles unlimited calls and 40GB of hotspot data.

If you don’t see a need for that much hotspot data, you can save a couple of ringgit and go with the Basic option which offers all the Unlimited goodies as the Standard option, but with 10GB of hotspot data.

At the moment, Yes offers 5G connection in select areas of Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Cyberjaya, Putrajaya, Johor, Perak, Penang and Kelantan. If you want to find out whether 5G is covered in your exact location, you can check out the telco’s coverage map.

What gaming phones can you get for under RM1,500?

Now, you cannot expect to get an actual gaming phone, brand new at least, for under RM1500. You know the kind that comes with RGB lights, shoulder buttons, and a custom gaming launcher like you might find on Asus’s ROG phones and Black Shark phones.

So, I again turned to Alex and Najib for a recommendation, and both unanimously agreed that the Poco F4 is one of the best phones for gaming for around RM1,500.

In terms of performance, you get a flagship series, Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 which slots just under the top-of-the-line Snapdragon 888, therefore it’s no slouch, and is cooled by Poco’s LiquidCool Technology 2.0. It is paired with 6GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 128GB of UFS 3.1 storage.

Up front, there’s a 6.67” FHD+ AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass 5. There’s a pair of stereo speakers for better audio quality. Battery-wise, you get a 4,500 mAh cell with support for 67W turbo charging with the included charger.

And in case you need them, there’s a triple camera setup on the back featuring a 64MP main camera with OIS, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 2MP macro sensor. For selfies, you get a 20MP camera housed in the punch-hole cut-out on the display.

Now, the caveat is that the Poco F4 retails for RM1,599 on Shopee and Lazada, which is RM99 over the budget. However, during big sale campaigns like 11.11 and 12.12, there’s a high chance you could grab one for under RM1,500. You can keep an eye on SoyaCincau.com for our tech deals live blog during these sale campaigns.

Aftermarket infotainment system for the Proton Saga SV

For a Proton Saga SV, I would recommend this 9-inch Android Player which can be fitted in the place of the stock system. Also included in the set is a custom housing for the player since the stock housing is not large enough to accommodate this Android Player.

You can get this player for as low as RM279 with a charge-coupled device or CCD reverse camera, which runs at a lower resolution and struggles to produce a clear image at night. For an additional RM70, you can upgrade to an analogue high-definition or (AHD) camera which is a newer HD video standard for cameras like these and runs at a higher resolution, producing a sharper image, especially at night.

An alternative would be this 9-inch Android Player which sits on the dashboard instead and comes with a custom housing as well. One advantage this player has over the previous one is that it comes with an OEM-compatible power connector. Therefore, you don’t need to cut and modified any cables.

This system starts at RM299 for the version with the CCD reverse camera and RM349 if you opt for the AHD reverse camera. Seeing how both systems share almost the same functionalities, your decision will come down to which placement you find the most pleasing.

We’re looking for driven, like-minded creatives to join our growing team!

I would like to announce that we are looking for people to join the SoyaCincau family. There’s an opening for Videographer, editor and graphic designer, and BM Tech writer. If any of these positions caught your attention, you can find more information here.
