The ongoing major power outage, affecting much of Peninsular Malaysia, has also disrupted some RapidKL services, the public transport provider said. On Facebook, the company announced that its rail services were affected by the blackout, specifically the Ampang and Sri Petaling LRT line.

RapidKL advised passengers to stay calm and follow the instructions issued by staff. It also advised travellers to find alternative arrangements for the time being. The company will post updates on the situation as it develops, it added.

The power outage, which occured sometime after noon today, has caused many areas in the Klang Valley, including the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), to be without electricity. Netizens are also reporting blackouts in areas as far afield as Penang, Perak, Pahang and Negeri Sembilan.

Service provider Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) said it has identified the source of the problem and is currently rectifying it. Meanwhile, Fahmi Fadzil, MP for Lembah Pantai where TNB’s Bangsar headquarters is located, said the issue apparently stems from a trip on the 132kV transmission grid and repairs are already underway. Digi has also confirmed service interruptions as a result of the outage.
