Rapid KL had recently released its terms and conditions for its one-month free ride programme which states that all commuters are required to download the Pulse app and fill up a survey form. This has caused some frustration and confusion among the public as the requirement is seen as an inconvenience.
In a recent reply on Twitter, Rapid KL has clarified that commuters are not forced to download the Pulse app or fill up the survey form. Passengers are merely advised to download the Pulse app to make it easier to plan their trips using MRT, LRT, BRT, Monorail and Rapid KL buses.
To recap, the T&C states that customers who are using tokens and cashless cards will need to fill-up the form in the MyRapid Pulse app or fill up a hardcopy survey form before entering the gates. The survey contains questions about your monthly income, usage of public transport, if you’re travelling with kids, monthly public transport expenses and why are you using the Rapid KL Free Ride. After submitting the Google form, users are reminded to save a screenshot on their devices.
From our own MRT trips yesterday, we noticed that there were no checks on the survey form when we hop on the MRT Feeder Bus or when tapping in or out from MRT stations. The Rapid KL Free Ride is open to all users until 15th July 2022. All you’ll need is a Touch ‘n Go card, My50 pass or a concessions pass with a minimum of RM5.00 balance. If you don’t have a card or pass, you can get a free token at the counter.
For those who renewed the My50 unlimited monthly pass on 16th June 2022, you are urged to retain your resit and claim the free ride when the pass expires. If your existing My50 pass expires between 17th June to 15th July 2022, you are also entitled to enjoy the 30-day free ride after the expiry.
The one-month free public transport programme was announced by Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob in conjunction with the opening of MRT Putrajaya Line Phase 1 which operates from Kwasa Damansara to Kampung Batu. The remaining stations until Putrajaya are set to open in January 2023.
Besides Rapid KL, the public can also enjoy one month of free rides on KTM Komuter. To ride for free, you can tap in and out using the Komuter Link card (minimum RM3 balance) or a Touch ‘n Go card (minimum RM5 balance).
According to KTMB, the free rides cover Batu Caves to Pulau Sebang (Tampin) and Tanjung Malim to Port Klang. It also includes the Skypark Link train which operates between KL Sentral to Subang Airport.
