TM waives 2 weeks subscription, extend credit terms for Unifi customers affected by floods

Telekom Malaysia (TM) has announced that it has restored 85% of flood-impacted Unifi services as of 4pm this afternoon. A total of 84,274 affected customers are now back online after TM’s engineering and support teams have worked around the clock to restore their core services.

Based on the latest update, over 90% of Unifi and Unifi Mobile services have been restored in Bukit Kemuning and Meru in Selangor. Restoration works in Bukit Changgang are still in progress as TM just gained access to the node and are undergoing a cleanup and assessment of the damage. In Pahang, 92% of Unifi and Unifi Mobile services have been restored in Bentong while 54% of Unifi services have been restored in Mentakab.

To support its customers during this difficult time, TM has allocated RM13 million to replace all damaged Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) due to the floods. TM has confirmed that the free equipment replacement offer, which includes the wireless router, is applicable to all Unifi Fibre Broadband and Unifi Air customers, with no impact on their existing contract. Affected customers can request the equipment replacement by calling 100 or reaching out to TM via live chat.

In addition, customers affected by the floods will get a two-week subscription waiver which will cost TM an estimated RM5 million. TM is also offering a credit term extension of 60 days to ease the financial burden of affected customers.

At the moment, TM has restored a majority of its impacted primary network sites. The recent floods which started last weekend had affected more than 15 network sites and hill stations across 4 states. Most of the sites were disrupted due to power cuts, as well as high water levels, and severe road conditions which prevented their support teams to access the locations.

As part of the GLC/GLIC Disaster Response Network (GDRN), TM has contributed RM2 million to aid the recovery, rebuilding and flood relief efforts. Together with Yayasan Telekom Malaysia (YTM), partner NGOs and Malaysian Armed and rescue forces, they have distributed over 3,500 care packs consisting of hot meals, dry rations and hygiene items, and COVID-19 self-test kits provided by Pharmaniaga to flood-hit areas in the Klang Valley and Hulu Langat.

Over 260 staff volunteers have joined in to assist communities to clean up homes including 830 of their own employees whose premises have been damaged by the floods. TM will also provide compensation via financial aid to affected staff while providing temporary shelter at MMU campus. You can track the progress of the network restoration at Unifi Alerts.
