Before the iPhone can use 5G, you will need a carrier update which requires certification from Apple. The updates were pushed previously for the early generation of iPhone models in order to enable 4G. Apple’s website currently lists the big four telcos namely Celcom, Digi, Maxis and U Mobile with support for 4G, eSIM and VoLTE. The other two telcos – TM (Unifi Mobile) and YTL Communications (Yes), are currently not listed at the time of writing.

At the moment, DNB’s 5G network is available in selected areas of Cyberjaya, Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur. Before the commercial wholesale deal is signed, DNB is offering free 5G access to telcos until 31st March 2022. Currently, only TM and YTL Communications are participating in the trial.
