iOS 15.1: When you SharePlay TikTok videos through FaceTime, you’ll get a special ‘For Us’ page

SharePlay has recently been added to iOS after the iOS 15.1 update, and it lets users listen to songs, watch TV shows, play games, and more while being on a FaceTime call with friends or family members. And if you’re sharing TikTok videos with someone through SharePlay, the ‘For You’ page instead becomes the ‘For Us’ page.

Twitter user @AetherAurelia pointed out that SharePlay-ing your TikTok feed with other people on the same FaceTime call would give you that special touch. The ‘For Us’ page combines the best of the users’ TikTok algorithms, which are partly based on your own interests and what’s recommended to you. A mix of everyone’s algorithms in one ‘For Us’ page sounds like a wild time, especially since some of us already send funny TikTok videos to each other.

“It’s essentially a synced page between the devices on the SharePlay session, it also seems to mix interests. From what I can tell it just mixes them, although when I swiped to the next video it seemed more targeted towards me, when Tom swiped it seemed targeted towards him,” explained Aether.

To start your own ‘For Us’ session, start a FaceTime call with someone—you can FaceTime with up to 32 people, but I think that amount of people for one TikTok ‘For Us’ party might be a little overwhelming. Once you’re on a FaceTime call, you can then go to the TikTok app with FaceTime in the background and press the “SharePlay” button on the top right side—next to the ‘For You’ page.

TikTok will then give you the mixed algorithm-based ‘For Us’ page. I tested it out with Redza and it did give us a mix of videos based on both our interests. When Redza flipped through the app, it gave us a lot more quirky Japanese-based content, and then I flipped through the app instead it gave us more uh… let’s just say they’re a little more basic.

As of now, SharePlay isn’t available to macOS users. However, Apple is working to add the feature to the Macs starting with macOS 12.1. As of now, it has already shown up for macOS 12.1 beta.

Besides SharePlay, iOS 15.1 also gives users an update for Apple Wallet, which allows users to add their verified COVID-19 vaccination card to make it easier to present vaccination information. But this is only applicable for selected countries.
