Lego announces another Super Mario related set, this time it’s a “foldable” question mark box

Lego and Nintendo have announced a new Super Mario-related Lego set—which is just as interactive as their other Mario sets. The Lego Super Mario 64 ? Block set is complete with microscale levels, including Peach’s Castle and other Polly Pocket-esque mini figures that can fold inside the iconic “question mark” box.

“With its unique combination of nostalgic game moments, creative possibilities and surprising functions, the ? Block set is a unique way for fans to rediscover the magic of Super Mario 64,” said Lego.

The ? Block set features a large brick shaped like the ‘question mark’ box you can find in a lot of Mario games. The box is also able to “unfold” to reveal four different “levels” from the Super Mario 64 video game—Peach’s Castle, Bob-omb Battlefield, Cool, Cool Mountain and Lethal Lava Trouble.

As well as the levels from Super Mario 64, the ? Block set has several microfigures of characters like Mario and Princess Peach, that can be placed in the detailed scenes. And as I’ve said so before, the little levels you can play with reminds me of old-school Polly Pocket in that they also involve cute little miniatures that can be “folded” into something else.

But you’re not just able to play it like you would a Polly Pocket set—you’re also able to play it interactively with your Lego Mario or Lego Luigi figures. the figures will be able to play some unique music and sounds from the video games, and are also able to seek out hidden “Power Stars” that reveal “secret reactions from the figures”.

“We know how much Super Mario fans have loved the Lego Super Mario experience, and wanted to tap into even more elements of the traditional game play capturing the immersive play experience of Super Mario 64,” said Pablo Gonzalez Gonzalez, Senior Designer at the Lego Group.

The Lego Super Mario 64 ? Block set has 2,064-pieces of Lego, and includes miniature figures for Mario, Princess Peach, and King Bob-omb, Chain Chomp, Big Bully, Mr. I, Lakitu, penguin, baby penguin and more. It will be available on Lego’s website on 1 October 2021 for USD 169.99 (RM703.50).
