iPhone 13 set to launch third week of September, Pro model will come with 1TB storage option

Daniel Ives, an analyst from Wedbush Securities, has stated that the iPhone 13 launch will happen on the third week of September. He has also claimed that there will be a 1TB option in the Pro models, which is double the biggest phone storage Apple has right now.

However, this isn’t the first time a brand has tried to fit 1TB of storage in a smartphone. Back in 2019, Samsung released the Galaxy S10+ with 1TB of storage for RM5,999.

When it comes to pricing, we don’t know much yet, but it would be interesting to see how much the iPhone Pro Max with 1TB would cost. At the moment, the iPhone 12 Pro Max with 512GB of storage is currently priced at RM6,699. If you look at the latest iPad Pro, the jump from 512GB to 1TB costs RM1,800 extra, so it wouldn’t be crazy to assume that the new Pro model could reach upwards of RM8,000 in price.

In the investor note regarding Apple, Ives had this to say:

Our recent Asia supply chain checks for 2H put iPhone builds between 130M-150M. The iPhone 13 appears to represent 35%-45% of iPhone builds in Q3, this positive outlook gives us enhanced confidence that 2021’s launch timing will be “normal”. From a timing perspective, we believe the current iPhone 13 launch is slated for the third week in September.

Usually, the annual Apple event happens in September with the products launching about a week later. Last year however, the iPhone 12 announcement was pushed to October due to the pandemic. Apple seems to be confident that the scheduling will have minimal hiccups and expects a smooth release plan.

There have been many iPhone 13 features that have been speculated or leaked. The majority of these features have to do with the camera system. Apparently, there are plans of Portrait Mode video which Apple calls “Cinematic Video” which will take the bokeh effect to moving pictures. This should theoretically put the power of DSLR professional grade cameras right in your pocket.

Additionally, Apple plans to add a ProRes video format, which would be the video version of ProRaw that was added in the iPhone 12 Pro. ProRes would have bigger file sizes but is aimed for professional video editors to get even better quality with minimal compression.

In terms of hardware, the iPhone 13 is rumoured to get an upgraded Ultra Wide lens, going from 5-element to a 6-element lens and adding autofocus to the camera.

According to Ives, all of the iPhone 13 models will have LiDAR sensors, including the 13 Mini and the 13 Pro Max. This inclusion will not only help with augmented reality (AR) media, but will also enhance the autofocus functionality in low-light situations.

There are more rumours about the upcoming iPhone including 25W fast charging and new colours, but we just have to wait until next month and see it to believe it.
