M1 Mac users can now run updated and speedier Adobe Premiere Pro

After launching the beta back in December, Adobe releases a newly updated Premiere Pro for everyone using a Mac with an M1 chip. According to Adobe, “everything is faster, and editing is buttery smooth”.

Specifically, The Verge noted that the native Premiere Pro has a 50% faster launch and a 77% speed increase for editing. Adobe also added that thanks to the M1 chip architecture, features for Adobe Sensei—Adobe’s AI tool—like Auto Reframe and Scene Edit Detection are “noticeably accelerated”.

Apple first released their new M1 chip in November 2020 with a MacBook Air, which marked the beginning of Apple’s transition from Intel processors to their own Apple Silicon. It is also said to offer up to “3.5x faster CPU performance and 5x faster graphics” compared to their Intel processor.

While the M1 Macs have always been able to run apps built for machines with Intel processors, programs had to be updated to take advantage of the M1’s speed improvements. Adobe has already launched several of their programs for the M1 Macs—including Lightroom, Photoshop, Lightroom Classic, Illustrator and InDesign. Adobe Character Animator and Media Encoder have also just gotten their M1 updates, too.

Besides a speed increase, Adobe also mentioned that Premiere Pro for M1 takes advantage of the M1’s lower power requirements, significantly providing its battery life. It will also come with support for Premiere Pro’s new July feature updates, available to all Premiere Pro users.

Their July updates include Speech-To-Text—which lets you automatically generate video transcripts. Additionally, there’s a new captions customisation feature that lets you adjust how a test might be displayed on a video.
