It appears there’s another fire incident involving the Yes Altitude 3 phone and this time it’s at Temerloh, Pahang. @najmi_fatin had shared on Twitter that her sister’s phone had “exploded” while charging. As shown in the picture, the phone is partially charred and the plastic back cover is badly deformed.

Fortunately, the student wasn’t harmed and she had gotten quick assistance from her teacher and the community. After hearing the incident, Haspul Nizan Deraman, a teacher at SBPI Temerloh had informed the school group and the Parent-Teacher Association. He said within 30 minutes, the community had raised enough funds to buy a new phone and she was given a Vivo Y12s in the evening.

The teacher expressed utmost gratitude to the community for solving the student’s problem in such a short time. Due to the current lockdown measures, they got the phone seller to deliver the phone directly to the student.

The Vivo Y12s is a budget smartphone that comes with a large 6.51″ HD+ screen and it has a large 5,000mAh battery. It runs on a MediaTek Helio P35 processor with 4GB RAM and 128GB of storage. The device features a 13MP + 2MP dual-camera setup and an 8MP front camera. The Y12s currently retails for RM699.

As reported earlier, YTL Communications are currently conducting an investigation into the fire incident as the safety of their products and users is of paramount importance. Earlier this week, a Yes phone had caught fire while a 9-year-old boy in Gombak was using it for his online classes. The Yes Altitude 3 phone is distributed for free with one year worth of data under the YTL Foundation.

The programme is aimed at helping B40 families with their children online learning needs. According to the company, they have distributed over 100,000 phones nationwide.

According to a recent update by the boy’s Aunt on Facebook, YTL Communications had sent a newer Yes Altitude 4 model as a replacement. However, she is still afraid of using the device.

The Yes Altitude 4 is a slightly better device than the previous model. It has a 5.5″ 960×480 pixels resolution display, a 1.4GHz UNISOC SC9823E processor with 2GB RAM and 16GB of storage. The battery is slightly bigger at 2,800mAh and it runs on Android 11 (Go Edition).

Yesterday, Xiaomi Malaysia had gifted a new Redmi Note 10 5G to the boy to help him with his online learning. The RM799 phone offers better hardware including a larger 6.5″ Full HD+ display, a newer MediaTek Dimensity 700 chip with 5G support, 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.
