Khairy: Interstate travel allowed to bring family members for vaccination appointment

Khairy Jamaluddin, the minister in charge of the Malaysia’s COVID-19 vaccine coordination effort has announced that one family member will be permitted to travel interstate to facilitate the vaccination of their dependents or family members. He said that the National Security Council has agreed to the proposal.

The Rembau MP gave an example of individuals in Kuala Lumpur may travel to Rembau to help their aging mother attend their vaccination appointment. So far there are no details yet on the application process and we reckon that individuals are likely required to apply for police permit with proof of their dependent’s vaccination appointment.

Phase 2 of the COVID-19 immunisation program is scheduled to start from 19th April in 8 states, namely Kedah, Pahang, Pulau Pinang, Melaka, Sabah, Sarawak, Terengganu and Labuan. Other states are expected to begin Phase 2 a few days later.

As of 12th of April, Khairy has shared that 31,776 vaccination appointments were sent to eligible Phase 2 recipients but 57% of them have yet to respond. He urged everyone to accept or decline the appointment so that they can better plan and coordinate the vaccine supply and to avoid wastage. The Minister also said that another 50,000 notifications will be sent out this week.

Eligible individuals will be notified via MySejahtera and SMS at least 14 days before the appointment date. Once accepted, another reminder will be sent out 3 days before the vaccination date. If you decline the appointment, a new date will be rescheduled.

You can check your COVID-19 vaccine registration status in the MySejahtera app. Alternatively, you can check here by submitting your IC/passport number and your phone number. If you haven’t register, you may do so through the MySejahtera app, vaksincovid.gov.my or call 1-800-888-828.
