One UI 3.0: Samsung is rolling out Android 11 to the Galaxy Note 20 series

After detailing the upgrades and changes that you can expect from the Android 11-based One UI 3.0, Samsung is now working on rolling out the update to Galaxy Note 20 series devices around the globe. As reported by 9to5Google, the update was initially pushed to Note 20 smartphones in the U.S., beginning with devices tied to AT&T.

According to their sources, the update contains the December 1st security patch for Android, with the new build number now being N986USQU1CTL2. A rollout of the update was then pushed to other Note 20 devices shortly after (unlocked/Verizon/etc.), before a global release was reported by PiunikaWeb. And yes, the global rollout includes the Exynos version of the Galaxy Note 20—which is available in Malaysia and India, among others.

At the moment, the update is still being pushed to more regions, but based on what we’re hearing thus far, this looks like a full global update. To check if One UI 3.0 is available on your Note 20 device (or any Galaxy smartphone), head over to Settings > Software update > Download and install—and the Android 11 update should be there. If not, be a little patient, because global updates can sometimes be released in stages.

What does One UI 3.0 offer?

Samsung says that One UI 3.0 is/will be available on their flagship devices: the Galaxy S20 series first, followed by the Note 20, Z Fold 2, Z Flip, Note 10, Fold, and S10 series. Finally the Galaxy A series will get the Android 11-based update within the first half of 2021.

According to the Korean smartphone makers, the update will bring a “new, refreshed design”, with a couple of visual effects and tweaks to the interface. Animations should also feel smoother, Samsung says, and the lockscreen now comes with new widgets to help you do stuff like control your music better, and access quick bits of information.

There are also a couple of software improvements made on the camera:

“With One UI 3, the camera on your device is even more powerful. Improved AI-based zoom on photos, and improved autofocus and auto-exposure help capture a great shot.”

And of course, the biggest reason to update to One UI 3.0 is Android 11. This is Google’s latest version of its smartphone OS, and you’ll also be getting necessary security patches from the Android team.
