Galaxy Z Fold 2 leak reveals Samsung has fixed one of the Galaxy Fold’s biggest problems

It appears that a leaked render of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 has been shared over Twitter by renowned Samsung leaker @IceUniverse. 9to5Google reported that the image shared seems to have come from a post on Chinese microblogging site Weibo.

Here is the image shared by @IceUniverse. Despite the second image being less blur than the first it still doesn’t look that great.

A slightly clearer version, but still blurry. pic.twitter.com/7KK76Fm6gf

Fortunately, Twitter user @BenGeskin took it upon himself to clean up the blurry image of the render.

And here is the post on Weibo featuring the render of the Galaxy Z Fold 2 along aside renders of the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, Galaxy Watch 3 and Galaxy Buds Live.

Translated:

These are all official renderings, but the file my friend sent me is a store display, which may be a bit vague.

Samsung’s main promotion in the second half of the year is this bronze colour. Note 20, Buds live and Z Fold 2 are all featured in this colour. I feel very old-fashioned at first sight, but it feels good if I watch too much. Do you like this colour scheme

Across the board, all the products were decked in the same “Mystic Bronze” colour that we previously saw in leaked renders of the Galaxy Buds Live,  which lends some credence to these leaked images.

With the launch of Samsung’s Galaxy Note 20 series a few weeks away, it is highly plausible that Samsung could be launching the follow up to its foldable phone. Samsung appears to want to streamline the product lineup by putting all of its foldable devices under the Galaxy Z brand. A quick check on Samsung Malaysia’s website shows that the current generation Galaxy Fold is moved under the Galaxy Z category.

Taking a closer look at the render of Galaxy Z Fold 2, it appears that Samsung has taken user feedback into consideration and increased the size of the outer display substantially. This would be a major improvement over last year’s Galaxy Fold which featured a small 4.6” display.

In comparison, the Huawei Mate Xs offered a much larger 6.6” display that made the device more usable overall. But that is only if you can afford its RM11,111 price tag which is more expensive than the original Galaxy Fold at RM8,388.

Samsung’s previous Galaxy Fold model had a 7.3” display when folded out and though we can’t clearly make out the size of the leaked images display, some rumours estimate it to be increased to 7.7” or 8” in size.

The only other detail we can pick out from the render is the rear camera module which closely resembles the renders of the Galaxy Note 20’s cameras. The render only shows two lenses and a LED flash. It is possible that it could come with a third lens, like the triple-camera array found on the original Galaxy Fold.

We will have to wait for the upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event that is scheduled to happen at 10 pm on the 5th of August to learn more about the Galaxy Z Fold 2. Samsung is also expected to announce the Galaxy Note 20 series,  Galaxy Buds Live, and the new Galaxy Watch 3 during the event.
