You can purchase the Lego NES console set replica starting 1st August in Malaysia

I wrote about the NES replica set being teased by Lego on Twitter yesterday after leaked photos of the set were posted by Hong Kong site VJGamer. Now, Lego has officially announced the set, which will be available to buy the same day as the rest of the Lego Super Mario sets—1st of August.

“Super Mario has been a cherished figure in the gaming world for over thirty years now. Many adults still fondly remember that first time they saw Mario leap across the small screen, even if the graphics were a lot simpler than they are today. With the Lego Nintendo Entertainment System, we’re letting them truly indulge in that nostalgia, recreating one of the most-loved consoles of all time so they can see the Super Mario from their childhoods once again—and share the experience of gaming in the 1980s with their own children,” said Maarten Simons, Creative Lead on Lego NES, the LEGO Group.

Like I’ve written previously, the Lego NES set is the full-size replica of the real NES. It includes a controller with a connecting cable and plug, as well as an opening slot for the Game Pak with a locking feature. The console also comes with a buildable retro TV, featuring a flat 8-bit Mario figure on the scrolling screen.

You’ll be able to play with the ‘crank’ that you can fiddle with to make the ‘8-bit Mario’ character move in the TV monitor. And if you purchase the Mario Starter Course along with it, you’ll be able to stick the bluetooth-enabled Mario on top of the ‘TV’ and he will be able to make the classic sounds you’d recognise from the game. You’ll also be able to see him ‘react’ (as seen below).

This NES console set replica is a new addition of the Lego Super Mario sets that you can purchase on the 1st August. You can check out the other sets in the same range here, and you can click here to learn how to pre-order the the Lego Super Mario Starter Course.

As for the Lego NES set, it will be available exclusively from Lego Certified Stores and Legoland in Malaysia from 1st August. All purchases of the kit will also receive a Lego brick based boxed set as a gift, while stocks last.
