AirAsia has announced that it will resume scheduled domestic flights within Malaysia starting Wednesday, 29th April 2020. Gradually, they will also resume international flights once it is permitted.
The airline added that the resumption of services will initially be for key domestic routes and they will gradually include international destinations around the network once the situation improves and governments lift border and travel restrictions.
AirAsia is scheduled to resume flights in Thailand and the Philippines on 1st May, followed flights in India on 4th May. Flights in Indonesia are expected to resume on 7th May.
As listed above, flights for Thailand, the Philippines and India are subject to government’s approval. Note that AirAsia India (I5) flights are only applicable for domestic routes within India. So far there’s no tentative timeline for AirAsia X operations.
For those that require to travel, customers may book their flights via airasia.com or through the mobile app. The airline says that guests may use their credit to redeem for these flights.
The airline will provide more details on routes and flight schedules in the coming weeks which are subject to approval from authorities.
AirAsia Group President (Airlines), Bo Lingam said, “We are very pleased to be able to fly again and to serve our guests starting with domestic routes, and hope to resume full operations as soon as possible. We have undertaken a thorough review of our guest handling procedures both on ground and onboard in light of the Covid-19 pandemic.”
“We have been working closely with the airport authorities to ensure that all the relevant precautionary measures are in place to ensure a safe, pleasant and comfortable journey for everyone.”
During this period, passengers are advised to take extra precautionary measures including wearing a face mask, social distancing and observe high personal hygiene. AirAsia says that their aircraft are fitted with hospital-standard HEPA filters and they are sent for thorough disinfection after each flight.
