The Galaxy S10 marks the 10th generation of the Galaxy S series. Ahead of its expected release sometime in February 2019, details of its purported camera setup have surfaced online. If you think two cameras at the back is too much, Samsung appears to be fitting even more cameras on their upcoming flagship model.
During its global debut, Samsung is expected to initially announce three variants that carry the model numbers SM-G9700, SM-G9730 and SM-G9750. For the base Galaxy S10 model, it will come with a standard dual-camera setup and a single front-facing camera. The main flagship models which will succeed the Galaxy S9 and S9+ are expected to come with a dual-front camera set up along with either two or three cameras for the rear.
After that, Samsung is said to be announcing an even larger variant of the Galaxy S10 with a 6.7″ display. For imaging, it is expected to come with two cameras for the front and a total of four cameras at the rear. That’s a total of six cameras on the phone.
If it follows the same approach as the Galaxy A9 (2018), you can expect the largest XL variant to offer both telephoto and ultra-wide-angle camera lens plus an additional camera just for depth sensing.
As a comparison, Huawei and LG also offers both zoom and ultra-wide-angle with a triple camera setup. The fourth camera isn’t necessary since depth-of-field information can be obtained from the secondary telephoto or ultra-wide-angle shooter. On top of that, the largest Galaxy S10 model is speculated to come with 5G and it will be released when South Korea switches on their 5G network.
