Here’s a peek at Samsung’s first smartphone with an Infinity-O display

When Samsung unveiled its working foldable smartphone prototype they had also announced four new Infinity Displays. One of it is the Infinity-O that features an edge-to-edge display with a cut-out hole for the selfie camera.

This unconventional “notch” is expected to make its debut on the upcoming Galaxy A8s and we now get a clearer view thanks to a new render.

According to German website, allaboutSamsung.de, the Galaxy A8s will have a display that stretches to the top corners of the device. There’s still a noticeable chin at the bottom but it’s much slimmer that what you’ll find on the current Galaxy A7 and A9. For taking selfies, the front camera is placed underneath the display and it’s visible through a cut-out hole on the top left corner.

With this approach, the “notch” is much smaller and the corner placement makes it less obtrusive when compared to a traditional notch. The only compromise I can think of is that you’ll lose a bit of space for the notification bar.

Over at the rear, the Galaxy A8s appears to share a similar triple-camera array as the current Galaxy A7 2018 and it’s likely to come with an ultra-wide angle camera. Also noticeable is a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor instead of a side-mounted unit like the current A7. According to allaboutsamsung.de, the A8s will come in a variety of gradient colour designs like the current Galaxy A9 (2018).

A few days ago, purported photos of the Infinity-O display had surfaced online. From the looks of it, it really does have an actual cut-out hole at the top which allows a camera lens to pop through.

If Samsung has to come out with an all-screen smartphone with minimal bezels, is the Infinity-O a better approach than a waterdrop notch design like the OPPO F9, vivo V11 and Mate 20? Let us know in the comments below.
