DJI’s Osmo Mobile 2 will retail in Malaysia for less than RM600

It looks like DJI‘s Osmo Mobile 2 will be officially coming to Malaysia pretty soon. This follow-up to the awesome original Osmo Mobile had one big trick up its sleeve that many of us didn’t see coming: It launched at half the price of what the original retailed at.

Today, we found out that it will be coming to Malaysia and the device will also cost less than half of the original’s RM1,376 price tag.

DJI’s Osmo Mobile 2 brings a number of upgrades to the original product. It’s got 3x the battery life thanks to a 2,600 mAh battery inside, giving it up to 15 hours of use on a single charge. You can also charge the device via microUSB which makes it infinitely more practical compared to the original’s weird charging port. It can also act as an emergency power bank thanks to its full-sized USB port for power delivery.

Speaking of practicality, the Osmo Mobile 2 also replaces its proprietary Rosette mount to the side of the device for a conventional 1/4″ universal screw mount at the end of the handle instead.

Besides that, the Osmo Mobile 2 is also a lighter device, weighing just 485g and now comes with a spring-loaded smartphone holder instead of the dial locking mechanism so it’s easier to snap your smartphone in place with ease.

All of this is also added on top of the original’s excellent tracking and smart features like ActiveTrack via the DJI GoApp, as well as the gimbal’s excellent 3-axis stabilisation.

However, despite these improvements, I don’t think you can really call the Osmo Mobile 2 an upgrade over the original. First off, you lose the ability to swap out empty batteries for new ones because the Osmo Mobile 2’s battery is not user replaceable.

You also lose the trigger button, which is a big bummer for us especially since that was what really set it apart from the other cheaper alternatives in the market.

But that said, I’m sure many will appreciate the much lower price tag. The Osmo Mobile will retail for RM588 here in Malaysia and is set to arrive locally in March 2018. This brings it much more in line to competitors like Zhiyun’s Smooth Q and gives the Osmo Mobile 2 the edge thanks to its superior app features.

Alternatively, honor’s got a special deal for their customers. If you pick up a brand new honor View10 at RM2,099 during the promotional period, you will be able to take part in a special purchase-with-purchase deal where you can get the DJI Osmo Mobile 2 for RM60 off. This deal will take place in February so stay tuned to honor’s social channels for more details.

DJI’s also offering a purchase-with-purchase offer where customers who pick up a brand new DJI Spark Fly More Combo can get RM200 off an honor View10.
