The Vivo X5 Max is now official and it steals the thinnest smart phone crown away from the OPPO R5. At 4.75mm, Vivo sets a new slim record but by a negligible 0.1mm from the R5’s 4.85mm thickness.
On the exterior, it looks very similar with the OPPO R5 except for some subtle design differences. At the front, it gets a 5.5″ Super AMOLED display that pushes a Full HD resolution of 1920×1080. Powering the device is an Octa-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor (4x cores at 1.7GHz and 4x cores at 1.0GHz) that’s mated to 2GB of RAM along with 16GB of storage. The Snapdragon 615 powerhouse supports 64-bit and also 4G LTE connectivity.
For imaging, it gets a front facing 5MP shooter for selfie while typical shots are handled by a popular 13MP Sony IMX214 camera. Despite being thinner, the X5 Max still manages to fit a 3.5mm headphone jack, a feature which is missing from the OPPO R5.
Another plus point is its 3-in-1 dual-SIM slot which allows you to either put a secondary microSIM SIM or expandable microSD. The first slot accepts nano-SIM as its primary line. Juicing up the X5 Max is a non-removable 2,000mAh capacity battery which is identical to the R5. Out of the box, it runs on Android 4.4.4 with its own custom Funtouch OS 2.0 skin on top.
Apart from being thin, Karaoke seems to be a major feature as it includes a dedicated Yamaha YSS-205X chip with HiFi 2.0 speakers that are mounted at the back. If we can summarise this device, it is a slimmer twin brother of the OPPO R5 with similar internals but with a larger 5.5″ screen. Apparently the extra 0.1mm reduction is made possible with new ultra-thin display panel that measures just 1.36mm thick.
It will be sold in China on 22nd December at 2,998 CNY which is about RM1,687. As comparison, the OPPO R5 is currently available for pre-order at RM1,598.
