Huawei Malaysia has just sent out invites for a launch event that’s happening on 13th November 2014. From the invite, it is obvious that this is their latest Ascend Mate 7 phablet, a 6-inch device that could take on the Galaxy Note 4.
Despite having a large 6″ display, the Ascend Mate 7 is actually narrower than the iPhone 6 Plus due to its thinner bezel design. The display pushes a Full HD 1080p resolution on a IPS-NEO panel, which claims to produce better blacks and offer better viewing angles than standard IPS displays.
Powering the device is a newer Hi-Silicon Kirin 925 Octa-Core processor (Quad-core Cortex-A15 @ 1.8 GHz + Quad-Core Cortex-A7 @ 1.3 GHz), which is a notch above the Kirin 920 that’s powering the Honor 6.
Depending on spec levels, the Ascend Mate 7 is available in either 2GB RAM with 16GB storage, or a higher-spec 3GB RAM with 32GB storage. It also gets a 13MP Sony BSI camera at the rear while the front gets a 5MP shooter. One of its main highlight of course, is the finger print scanner that’s mounted at the back. Instead of the usual swiping or button pressing action on other devices, the Ascend Mate 7 claims to be better as it unlocks at the point of touching your finger on the scanner.
Being a new Huawei flagship, it also gets faster Cat 6 4G LTE with speeds up to 300Mbps. For those concerned about battery life, it even packs a whopping 4,100mAh capacity battery that’s rated to last up to 2 days. Even with that huge battery, the Ascend Mate 7 still manages to maintain a slender 7.9mm thickness, which is thinner than the Galaxy Note 4 of 8.5mm. We’ll be at the event, so stay tuned for pricing and availability details.
