ShopeePay Money+ offers up to 5% p.a. daily returns: Here is what you need to know

If you use ShopeePay, you might have spotted promotional banners highlighting Money+ with daily returns of up to 5% per annum (p.a.).

While that promotional figure sounds tempting, ShopeePay’s fine print emphasises that the payout is split into two separate tiers and tied to strict conditions.

To qualify, you need to maintain at least RM200 in your Money+ account. The bonus rate applies only up to RM10,000 and the entire campaign operates on a first-come, first-served basis until the allocated budget is exhausted.

What is Shopee Money+?

Money+ is an investment feature built into the ShopeePay app. It will invest your digital wallet balance into the Eastspring Investments Islamic E-Duit Fund.

This is a Shariah-compliant money market fund managed by Eastspring Investments Berhad, distributed through iFAST Capital and regulated by the Securities Commission Malaysia.

The neat part about Money+ is that it does not lock your funds away. Unlike fixed deposits where your money is trapped for months, you can access your cash whenever you like.

You can scan merchant DuitNow QR codes, pay for your shopping cart directly on Shopee or transfer cash to family and friends straight from your Money+ balance without needing to withdraw to your main wallet first.

Just remember that Money+ is not a bank account. That means your money is not protected by Perbadanan Insurans Deposit Malaysia (PIDM), with capital returns fluctuating based on market movements rather than being legally guaranteed.

5% p.a. is not guaranteed

The main draw right now is the promotional campaign offering returns of up to 5% p.a, credited into your balance daily.

However, getting that full promotional rate comes with several ground rules.

For starters, you have to register your Money+ account. Then, top up and maintain an active balance of at least RM200 inside the account. If your balance slips below RM200 on any given day, you will not receive any bonus earnings for that day.

Then there is the ceiling: the extra promotional rate applies solely to balances up to RM10,000. If you deposit more than RM10,000, every ringgit above that mark earns only the normal fund return of roughly 3% p.a.

The campaign is slated to run until 30 November 2026, but there is an important caveat. ShopeePay has set aside a total budget quota of RM1.7 million on a first-come, first-served basis.

Once that pool runs dry, the promotional bonus ends automatically. To take part, you must be a verified Malaysian citizen aged 18 or older with completed eKYC verification and no US tax ties.

Bonus top up

How does ShopeePay reach that 5% advertised figure? It does not come from a single pot. Instead, the payout is split into two distinct parts.

The first layer is the actual return from the Eastspring Investments Islamic E-Duit Fund. Because this is a money market fund, its performance goes up and down based on market conditions, typically floating around 3% p.a.

Top-up confirmations for the Eastspring Investments Islamic E-Duit Fund are processed on business days according to a daily cut-off schedule. Subscriptions made before 14:00 (2:00 PM MYT) are confirmed on the same business day, whereas any deposits made after 14:00 are confirmed on the following business day.

On the other hand, the second layer is a bonus top-up of up to 2% p.a. funded directly by ShopeePay as a promotional incentive.

ShopeePay essentially assumes the base fund delivers roughly 3% p.a, which adds up to 5% p.a. once the 2% bonus kicks in. If the base fund has a slower day and yields less, your overall daily return will dip below 5% p.a. as well.

Keep in mind that ShopeePay only credits the bonus on regular business days. If you check your balance over a weekend or public holiday, your bonus earnings will accumulate and show up on the following working day instead.

Increased wallet size to RM30,000

Along with the 5% campaign, ShopeePay has expanded the maximum holding limit of Money+ to RM30,000, up from the previous RM20,000 cap.

This bump puts Money+ on equal footing with the top-tier wallet size available to fully verified ShopeePay users. It gives you plenty of breathing room to store extra funds without constantly worrying about hitting the ceiling.

That said, do not mistake the larger wallet limit for bigger promo earnings. Remember that the 2% bonus top-up only applies to the first RM10,000 you put in.

If you decide to fill your wallet to the brim with RM30,000, the remaining RM20,000 will earn the standard underlying fund yield.
