U Mobile has launched ULTRA Home 5G Pro, its new wireless 5G broadband offering which promises speeds of up to 2Gbps with a 2,000GB monthly Fair Usage Policy (FUP) quota. With wireless 5G broadband, you can get connected at home without waiting for a fixed fibre installation.
Priced from RM98/month, it also comes with a free Huawei H168 WiFi 7 5G-A router worth RM1,200.
The telco claims this is Malaysia’s first 8×8 MIMO 5G-Advanced (5G-A) home broadband plan, which can deliver up to twice the speeds of conventional 4×4 MIMO 5G broadband.
U Mobile ULTRA Home 5G Pro costs RM98/month
The ULTRA Home 5G Pro costs RM98/month and it comes with a 2,000GB FUP quota.
For comparison, U Mobile’s regular ULTRA Home 5G plan costs RM68/month with a 1,000GB FUP quota, while an additional 1,000GB can be added on for RM30/month.
Essentially, the new Pro plan costs the same as the existing RM68 plan with the additional 1TB data add-on. The difference is that you’re also getting 8×8 MIMO 5G-A connectivity, the new WiFi 7 5G-A router and AI-Powered Game Turbo.
If you want entertainment content bundled together, U Mobile also offers ULTRA Home 5G Pro x sooka Premium for RM128/month.
Free Huawei H168 WiFi 7 5G-A router worth RM1,200
Both ULTRA Home 5G Pro plans come with a free Huawei H168 WiFi 7 5G-A router worth RM1,200. U Mobile claims it is the first and only Ultra Performance WiFi 7 5G-A router offered by a telco in Malaysia.
The router features 40 antennas with up to 14dBi gain and supports 8×8 MIMO 5G connectivity. It has a theoretical maximum 5G NR capability of up to 11.7Gbps download and 2.5Gbps upload, although the ULTRA Home 5G Pro service itself is advertised with speeds of up to 2Gbps.
For wired connectivity, there are two Gigabit Ethernet ports, consisting of one LAN/WAN and one LAN port. It also has an RJ11 port and two TS-9 interfaces for external antennas.
The H168 supports tri-band WiFi 7 with speeds of up to 688Mbps on 2.4GHz and up to 2,882Mbps on each of its two 5GHz bands. It also supports Multi-Link Operation (MLO) and up to 192 simultaneous connections.
8×8 MIMO 5G-A promises up to 2x faster speeds
According to U Mobile, its 8×8 MIMO 5G-A implementation enables the router to receive more data streams simultaneously from its ULTRA5G network compared to conventional 4×4 MIMO configurations.
The telco claims this can provide speed improvements of between 20% and 100%, with speeds of up to 2Gbps subject to coverage, signal strength and various factors. In addition, the 8×8 implementation claims to provide provides greater capacity even when multiple devices are connected at the same time.
Of course, once you’ve hit your FUP limit, your actual speed will be throttled down to 512Kbps until your next billing cycle. Alternatively, you can add-on a 1000GB Ultra Home 5G Pro quota for RM30. U Mobile added that the plan is tied to a contract of either 24 or 36 months depending on the commitment period.
AI-Powered Game Turbo prioritises gaming traffic
U Mobile is also targeting gamers with its AI-Powered Game Turbo feature that comes as standard with the new ULTRA Home 5G Pro plans.
According to the orange telco, the Game Turbo is a feature implemented on U Mobile’s network. It identifies supported gaming traffic in real-time and prioritises it separately from general data traffic, with the aim of reducing latency and improving responsiveness.
Supported titles include Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, PUBG Mobile, League of Legends, Dota 2, Fortnite and GTA V, along with other PC, console and mobile games.
U Mobile describes the experience as “fibre-like”, though actual latency will still depend on network conditions and the respective game servers.
At the moment, ULTRA Home 5G Pro is only available in Peninsular Malaysia, while U Mobile says availability in East Malaysia will be announced later.
