Two years ago, the Road Transport Department (JPJ) introduced the JPJePlate which sets the new standardised number plate format for new vehicles.
First introduced for zero emission vehicles (ZEV) including Electric Vehicles (EV), the JPJePlate is finally making its way for Malaysian taxis.
It has a similar design and typeface as the EV version but it comes with a different colour scheme for taxis.
As spotted during the Program Pembaharuan Teksi Madani Nasional event today, the new taxi fleet which uses the Proton S70 are now fitted with the new JPJePlate.
The vehicle registration number uses red font on a white background, while the left most strip is in grey instead of green.
The taxi’s JPJePlate also comes with built-in RFID antenna, laser engraved serial number, QR code for both front and rear, and also comes with the holographic stripe as an anti-counterfeiting feature. The plate also comes with the Malaysian flag and the country code “MAL” on the left stripe.
Interestingly, the the taxi version appears to be missing the watermark for the embossed number for the front plate. The watermark feature is standard on the EV version as shown above.
The JPJePlate is made with aluminium and comes with retro-reflective characteristics for better visibility at might. These standardised plates are producted by Handal Ceria using technology from Germany-based Tonnjes.
