Vivo launches OriginOS 6 globally, to debut in Malaysia with X300 series flagship in November 2025

Vivo has launched its latest Android skin, OriginOS 6, globally, marking the first time the interface has been available outside of China. Previously exclusive to Vivo’s home market since 2020, Android 16-based OriginOS 6 will now replace the long-running Funtouch OS on international Vivo and iQoo devices, including those in Malaysia.

Smoother and snappier performance with bold nature-inspired design

At the launch event, Vivo emphasised how it has designed OriginOS 6 to look and feel smoother. The company is also promising that OriginOS 6 to stay smooth even after five years of heavy use, and has in fact earned an SGS certification for that.

In terms of aesthetics, OriginOS 6 features a series of new and bold-looking designs, including some that remind us of Apple’s iOS 26, which Vivo says has been inspired by nature. There’s also the Lock Screen Grid feature that allows users to arrange resize lock screen widgets freely and customise fonts. You can even set live photos as your wallpapers or tilt your phone to flip through different wallpapers with dynamic animations using Flip Cards.

Origin Island is more than what you might think

OriginOS 6 also introduces the Origin Island feature, whose inspiration I believe will be familiar to many. However, Vivo has enhanced the concept by integrating its own AI to make interactions more intuitive.

A prime example is the Drag & Go function: Simply drag a photo from the gallery, and Origin Island intelligently surfaces relevant apps such as Instagram, Snapchat, and Notes, allowing you to seamlessly drop and share the content. What about copying meeting details to create a calendar event or dragging your photos to your preferred photo editing app? Drag & Go lets you do that without needing to switch between apps.

Beyond all of that, Vivo also talked about strengthening its efforts to safeguard data security and privacy in OriginOS 6.

Seamless connectivity with Mac and Windows PC

Vivo is also trying to break down the walls of ecosystems by allowing its OriginOS 6-powered smartphones to connect seamlessly with Mac and Windows computers. Made possible thanks to the Vivo Office Kit app, you can do things such as screen mirroring, file transfer, and more.

When will OriginOS 6 arrive in Malaysia?

OriginOS 6 will be making its debut in Malaysia with the Vivo X300 series, which is set to make its local launch in November this year. The new UI will also be rolling out to other Vivo and iQoo smartphones in phases. Here’s the timeline:
