It seems that more manufacturers are getting into the AI craze with OnePlus the latest to announce their new OnePlus AI and its latest feature: AI Eraser. This is similar to the Samsung Galaxy AI’s Photo Assist on the Galaxy S24 series and Google’s Magic Eraser on their Pixel devices.

According to OnePlus, AI Eraser is powered by OnePlus’ own proprietary large language model and represents their first step in their goal to bring AI-powered tools to showcase user creativity. Said to be the result of ‘substantial R&D’, it was carried out with the goal of ensuring accuracy and reliability of AI-generated content. Its proprietary LLM powering the tool is said to have been trained on a ‘vast dataset’, giving it the ability to comprehend complex scenes and swap out unwanted objects in your photo and replace them with more appropriate elements.

OnePlus users will be able to use AI Eraser on their OnePlus device to simply select and remove any unwanted objects and elements in their images straight off the Photo Gallery app. You can highlight everything from pedestrians and garbage cans iin your shot to even imperfections in the image and have the AI Eraser tool automatically generate a replacement for it that blends it into the surrounding environment without looking out of place.

Still not convinced? Well you can take a look at its results below, though do note that the following sample came from OnePlus themselves:

“The development of AI Eraser closely follows OnePlus’ user-centric design philosophy, which places great importance on the value of real user applications.

By eliminating the need for complex manual editing or the use of dedicated photo editing software, AI Eraser makes image editing accessible to all users regardless of previous photo editing experience,” – Gary C, OxygenOS Product Lead

As for when the OnePlus AI with the AI Eraser feature will be available, OnePlus says that the feature will be rolled out gradually to the following OnePlus devices this month onwards:

  • OnePlus 12
  • OnePlus 12R
  • OnePlus Open
  • OnePlus 11
  • OnePlus Nord CE 4
