Outdoorsman and adventure seekers, this may be the smartwatch for you. Garmin’s new tactix 7 AMOLED edition is finally here in Malaysia, and it packs a bevy of features that will appeal to the adventurous.
The new tactix 7 AMOLED edition is built according to military standards (MIL-STD-810) for thermal, shock and water performance, is water-rated to 10 ATM and can remain mission-ready for up to 31 days. The bezel is titanium with a carbon gray DLC (diamond-like coating), scratch-resistant sapphire lens, fibre-reinforced polymer housing and titanium rear cover, and black tactical nylon QuickFit bands. Garmin even said that the watch can go from on-field deployment to formal functions just like that.
The screen is now a 1.4-inch AMOLED display that provides higher detail than before and can be dimmed all the way to a brightness of 1 nit when you want to go undetected, but still have access to information on your wrist. Speaking of undetected, the night vision compatible flashlight is a dimmable green flashlight that works when used with Night Vision Goggles (NVG) turned on. It provides light to the immediate area while preserving the user’s natural night vision.
For night operations, the tactix includes a built-in multi-LED flashlight that shines in either white or green. In NVG mode, the AMOLED display dims to levels functional to the primary user (including those wearing night optic devices) but nearly invisible to anyone else.
There is even a Stealth Mode which turns off all wireless communications but still collects other data such as distance travelled and biometric data for health monitoring.
Like other smartwatches, the tactix has a suite of sensors, including heart rate, Pulse Ox, Respiration and Stress tracking for 24/7 fitness tracking out in the wild. There are also built-in tools such as Endurance and Hill Score tracking to measure sustained physical exertion while recording your fitness progress.
The new Wrist-based Running Power feature allows users to gauge how much physical power is being exerted to manage and fine-tune training preparedness.
Garmin even included aviation features into the tactix 7 AMOLED edition with the smartwatch’s Direct-To-Navigation feature, which allows users to navigate straight to an airport in the world aeronautical database or use the “Nearest” function to activate a path to a nearby airport. Plus, pilots, both civilian and military, can access aviation weather, including NEXRAD radar, METARs and TAFs to see winds, visibility, barometric pressure and more directly on their smartwatch when paired to a smartphone.
With multi-band GPS support, users can access multiple different satellites for improved ground position accuracy. The new model comes preloaded with TopoActive maps and Public Land Boundaries Maps, SkiView Maps, and more than 43,000 full-color golf courses around the world and is compatible with Garmin’s Outdoor Maps+ service.
The tactix 7 AMOLED Edition is available now with a suggested retail price of RM6,930 from Shopee, Lazada, AECO e-store, Garmin Brand Stores and all authorized retailers.
