Did you know that you can access thousands of online courses and certificates without paying a single sen?
Back in August, the Ministry of Digital announced a plan to offer free Coursera access to 100,000 Malaysians through the Rakyat Digital portal.
Since sign-ups opened on 16 September, over 12,900 users have registered and signed up for more than 43,000 courses. Most of these early learners come from Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Johor, Pulau Pinang, and Perak.
If you want to learn new skills or add an official certificate to your resume, here is what you can study and how to claim your free slot.
What courses are available under the Global Learning Pass?

The Global Learning Pass unlocks Coursera’s full catalogue, which usually requires a paid monthly subscription.
A Coursera Plus subscription normally costs USD 59 (around RM240) per month, which means this three month pass is worth roughly RM720 in value per person. Through this offer, you get full access to certificate programmes and classes offered by top global universities and big tech companies, including Yale University, IBM, and Google.
The courses cover popular skills like Artificial Intelligence, machine learning, data science, cybersecurity, cloud computing, and software building.
Besides tech topics, you can also take classes on business management, digital marketing, project leadership, and design.
Once you finish a course, you get an official digital certificate that you can add directly to your LinkedIn profile or resume.
How to claim your free three-month Coursera licence

To get this free offer, you must be a Malaysian citizen with an active MyDigital ID account.
To start, visit the official Rakyat Digital website at rakyatdigital.gov.my and head over to the Digital Skills Hub, then select the Global Learning Pass option and join the waiting list.
Make sure you use the exact same email address connected to your MyDigital ID and Rakyat Digital account so your account details match up properly.
After you submit your request, you will receive an invitation email with an activation link within 48 hours, depending on available spots. The government is giving out 100,000 passes in total, with active groups limited to 25,000 spots at a time.
Once you get the email, you have seven days to activate your pass. If you do not activate it within seven days, your spot will be cancelled and given to the next person on the waiting list.
Once activated, your three month free access starts right away.
